Mother of slain girl warns killer: you are about to be arrested
Sidhartha Banerjee, The Canadian Press Jun 01, 2011 13:02:04 PM

Jolene Riendeau's mother spoke Wednesday to the media for the first time since the shocking news of the discovery of her daughter's remains — some 12 years after she vanished in 1999.

Dolores Soucy said what drives her now is making sure that her daughter's killer is brought to justice.

She said police are within striking distance of making an arrest; she's hopeful a $30,000 reward will give police the missing information they need.

"He ran for 12 long years. He ain't gonna run no more," Dolores Soucy told a news conference Wednesday.

“Until he is arrested, sentenced and put behind bars, there will be a sexual predator walking our streets,”

Although she praised the “magnificent work” that many police officers did during the long search, the outspoken Soucy reiterated her demand that a special squad be set up to investigate missing person cases.

Her daughter’s disappearance was handling by the Montreal police’s major crimes squad. That department is too busy investigating other crimes, Soucy said.

Soucy said she hopes the reward will entice someone to come forward so the perpetrator can finally be charged with her daughter's kidnapping and murder.

Jolène never had a chance to become a young woman or attend her parents' marriage, which occurred after they had been together 25 years, her mother said.

"She had a lot of interests, like cheerleading," she recalled.

"She didn't get a chance do to anything of these things."

"Laval police have announced the arrest of a man in connection with the murder of a young girl whose body was found in a swamp 16 years ago.

The body of nine-year-old Joleil Campeau was found in a swamp near her family home in the Auteuil district of Laval on June 16, 1995."

This is NOT in regards to Jolene Riendeau -- but I can't help but wonder if it might somehow end up being connected to her case? I hope we learn more about both cases as things progress.

"(Daudelin) indicates very openly that his aggression towards women is not necessarily related to conflicts with them but more generally with conflicts he has with men," Durivage wrote.

He quoted Daudelin as saying that he often turned his anger toward women because "they are more easy prey, more vulnerable to the physical control of a man."

I can understand not saying anything if it could possibly damage the case in some way. This makes me wonder if LE had a strong feeling that it was someone the family knew or a member of the family. I would also wonder if the family was aware of this person's past history (if it turns out to be the suspect that was released)?

Such a sad case. I hope Jolene's parents get the closure they need.

I am going to have to read up on the Julie Suprenant case. I wonder if more will surface as things progress.

TERREBONNE — Surete du Quebec divers are plumbing the depths of the Mille-Iles river in Terrebonne as they resume a decade-old search for a missing teenager.

"Prime suspect confessed to nurse in 2006

Police long suspected that her neighbour, Richard Bouillon, had abducted the girl, but could never prove anything.

However earlier this year a nurse came forward and said that in 2006, Bouillon told her that he had killed the teenager, then put her body in a sports bag and thrown it into the river near a church.

Bouillon died at the age of 52, on June 22, 2006, at Laval's Cite de la Sante Hospital. He had been serving a six-and-a-half year sentence for rape, molestation, sexual assault and drug-trafficking."

The nurse had been legally prevented from disclosing the deathbed confession until ordered to do so by a coroner's inquest.

The father said he didn't understand why it would take so long to go public with the supposed confession of the longtime suspect.

On Wednesday, while standing near the river, Surprenant expressed hope his daughter might rest in peace but, after 12 years of heartbreak, said he was still holding back.

"Is it difficult? After 12 years, we've learned to live with this," he said.

"I just believe this (closure) would be a positive thing, for Julie."

Police suggested the chances of a breakthrough were high. Sgt. Benoit Richard said the river search was no mere long shot.

"If our diving specialists consider it's worth the effort to conduct such an exhaustive search of the Mille-Iles River, it's because they consider that there are chances we might recover information that will help resolve this crime."

"MONTREAL - Michel Surprenant said the recent discovery of the remains of 10-year-old Jolène Riendeau has given him renewed hope that police will one day find his daughter, Julie, who has been missing for 12 years.

"If Jolène was found, why can't we find Julie? It could happen," Surprenant said Wednesday as police divers waded in waist-deep water of the Mille Îles River looking for evidence to solve the mysterious disappearance of the 16-year-old student. The search is to resume Thursday morning.

Police were searching the river just off Île St. Jean, between Laval and Terrebonne, close to where Julie had lived when she disappeared in November 1999 after getting off a bus"

Some of the original detectives are still on the case," he said. "I am glad for Julie. She deserves this. I hope we can find her - if in fact, she is there." He said the public has paid close attention to this case "because everyone knows it could happen to them." Surprenant urged anyone with information about his daughter's disappearance to contact police.

"Now is the time to speak up," he said.

Older news link ...Wondering if this guy was responsible or associated with anyone who may have murdered Sharron Prior....

http://www.montrealgazette.com/news/Robert+Laramée+Profile+sexual+predator/6724142/story.html
"At the same time, in 2001, Laramée also was charged and, eventually, convicted of abusing three girls. It was during that investigation that Laramée admitted he had no control over his sexual impulses.

Before interrogating Laramée in 2001, investigators already had videotaped statements from his victims, who were between ages 5 and 14 when the abuse occurred. He did little to deny allegations he had assaulted, molested and forced at least one of the girls to perform oral sex.

"He talked of his regrets and his remorse. He wanted to start over from zero," Det.-Sgt. Lorraine Leblanc said during a bail hearing on Oct. 10, 2001. She was describing Laramée's interrogation, during which he cried uncontrollably. "He said he wanted to be operated on, to be cured, that he wanted to see a specialist. He said it was an impulse inside him that made him sick and that it was stronger than him. He said that after having these sexual impulses he would become violent. He said he was no longer able to control himself."

During the same bail hearing, Leblanc revealed that even before his arrest in 2001, Laramée was already well known to the Montreal police sexual assault squad. She testified he had been under investigation twice be-fore, following allegations he sexually assaulted different children in his neighbour-hood when he lived in Verdun and Point St. Charles. He was never charged in those investigations"

"Dolores Soucy, the mother of a 10-year-old girl who disappeared from Point St. Charles and was killed more than a decade ago, pleaded guilty to assaulting the suspect in her daughter’s death Friday morning and received a sentence that leaves her with no criminal record.

Jolène Riendeau disappeared in 1999. Her remains were only found 11 years later, buried under a span leading to the Champlain Bridge. Soucy knew for years that Robert Laramée, 51, a convicted sex offender, was always a suspect in her daughter’s death. He was questioned about the homicide in 2011, after the Montreal police received confirmation that the remains they found were in fact Jolène’s.

Laramée resided near the home where Jolène lived with her family when she disappeared in 1999 and Soucy suspected him early on as the police investigated. Police sources have said for years that Laramée was a suspect in the killing"

Somehow missed this lengthy article from 2012, an adult g.friend describes suspect's unexpected actions...

http://www.montrealgazette.com/news/Robert+Laramée+Profile+sexual+predator/6724142/story.html

" Laramée and the victim started seeing each other early in 2007. Three weeks after their first date, around the time his probation ended, Laramée allegedly began to exhibit the same menacing behaviour as he did with the woman he was in a relationship with in 2001.

While testifying, on June 6, 2011, the woman in the cur-rent case testified Laramée surprised her while they were having sex one night.

"I never saw behaviour like that," the woman said while describing how, out of nowhere, Laramée placed his hands over her throat and applied pressure, but not enough to choke her. The woman testified she was disturbed by what Laramée did and asked him why he had pretended to strangle her. She said Laramée replied it turned him on. She said he continued to wrap his hands around her neck during sex even though she made it clear she didn't enjoy it the first time."
