Canada - Laurelie, 5, Loic, 4, & Anais Blanchette, 2, murdered, Quebec, Dec 2012

A Quebec mother has been charged with murdering her three young children, whose bodies were found in her Drummondville home Sunday evening.

Sonia Blanchette was charged with three counts of first-degree murder at the Drummondville courthouse Wednesday, after her release from hospital earlier in the day.

She will have to undergo a psychiatric evaluation and is due to return to court on Dec. 14, CTV Montreal’s Stephane Giroux reported.

If the estranged husband is not the father of this unborn child, that is lower than a snake's belly. I hope it is his child, the poor man. I feel so sorry for him.

Have we heard why the grandmother left the children alone with their mother that day? His mother, or her mother?

Her mother. I haven't read why she left her daughter unsupervised with the children. I really don't blame the poor lady. What a burden it must have been on her and now she probably feels guilty. IMO, that kind of arrangment makes absolutely no sense and should never have happened. Supervised visits shouldn't be handled by a family member. Good grief. What a stupid system.

Accused killer mom will probably get institutionalized for a year or less and then get released like this other .

Former Quebec doctor who killed his children to be released

The former Quebec cardiologist who was found not criminally responsible for killing his children was granted conditional release.

A re-evaluation session was held today at Montreal's Pinel Institute. The Mental Health Assessment Commission said Guy Turcotte has made enough progress to be released.

He will, however, continue to see a psychotherapist.

He was found not criminally responsible 18 months ago for killing his two children in 2009.

:furious:

^^^^^^^^
Sorry to be a b^^^h but the grandmother should also be charged, It was her responsibility to SUPERVISE.
JMO

I have wondered about this as well. At least charge her with child endangerment at minimum!! There has been very little on this story ... Moo

Yes clearly she was unwell at the time she murdered her children. There has been nothing that indicates WHY her husband got custody in the first place. It was during a supervised ((grandmother failed on that one)) visit when she 'despatched' the children. Was this a power play custody issue or had she been unwell for a longer period of time? We don't know. Chicken and egg argument sometimes in these cases. MOO

We never did hear about the ''pregnancy of Dec 12" did we??? no news on that at all.........did the fetus survive her starvation or was it born relinquished. There are so many missing parts to this story.

Mother claims she wasn't given instructions and/or guidelines for supervised visits.

Father of deceased children had been prevented from seeing his kids when they were first divorced.....((we don't know her reasons for that do we?))

Sonia was charged with kidnapping (don't know the details on that - could have been something as silly as trip out of the country to Disneyland because written permission is required by non custodial parent in Canada if you are taking children out of the country)

Superior Court granted father custody (we don't know details - was she drug addict?)

There is nothing about the outcome of the 4th pregnancy of December 2012 in MSM

Given there was a publication ban on this tragic case -- so much is missing.

those beautiful babies ((RIP))

Ironic that she was unwell at the time of the killings yet her attorney petitioned the court to allow her to commit suicide in custody by showing that she was of sound mind in her decision to kill herself. This whole case is just so wrong.

Don't know how to go about rattling cages to see what went wrong first KWIM?
