GUILTY Canada - Susan Ryan, 66, & 2 sons killed with crossbow, Toronto, 25 Aug 2016

Some info about the package here. http://www.cp24.com/news/man-charge...-by-crossbow-in-scarborough-village-1.3045332

" Later in the afternoon on Thursday, police headed to a condo tower at 218 Queens Quay on the Harbourfront to secure a suspicious package.
Supt. Bill Neadles said there was a link between the deaths and the package found in a unit on the 14th floor of the condo tower, but would not specify the nature of the link.
The condo suite where the package was found has been sealed until police can return with a search warrant."

This tells more about the package that I hadn't read: Can't find one that says "grizzly" :)

"Just two hours later, as police were investigating Ryan’s home at an upscale downtown condominium, officers discovered a suspicious package inside the unit and called in the chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive team. Residents inside the Queens Quay building were ordered to evacuate.

Carbone said the officers’ decision to call in the specialized unit was “quite appropriate,” but stressed that at no time was there a danger to the public. He did not confirm the contents of the package.

Brett Ryan, the man charged in crossbow killings, appears in court with a new lawyer
Defence says it has received 'voluminous' disclosure that it needs to review

Ryan appeared briefly via video link at 1911 Eglinton Avenue East in Scarborough, looking attentive in an orange jumpsuit.

The accused said "good morning" to the court and stated his name when asked. He said "thank you" after the court dealt with his matter.

Brett Ryan pleads guilty to crossbow deaths of mother, 2 brothers

Brett Ryan pleaded guilty to one count of first degree murder and two counts of second degree murder on Friday for killing his mother and two of his brothers in last year's Toronto crossbow slayings.

Ryan, 36, appeared in the Ontario Court of Justice in Scarborough in front of Justice McMahon this week and was sentenced to three concurrent sentences of life in prison plus a 10-year concurrent sentence for the attempted murder of a third brother. He has no chance of parole for 25 years.

The computer " alibi " is interesting as it relates to some cases on WS where posters have speculated that the perp may have done something similar, imo. speculation.

“In the days leading up to Aug. 25, 2016, Brett’s concerns led him to plan her death,” said Emami. Brett planted the crossbow in his mom’s garage and set up two computer devices in his Queens Quay apartment that, once activated, would play comedy files from YouTube, and send e-mails from his computer, court heard.

“This was a sophisticated plan to build in an alibi, although these devices were never used,” said McMahon.
Computerized alibi devices

They were alibi devices for a computer geek.

Two devices were to create the illusion that killer Brett Ryan was at his downtown condo, chuckling over comedy videos and sending various e-mails so he could tell officers he was at home — and nowhere near his mom’s suburban home when she was brutally murdered.

When police officers shut down and searched Brett’s Queens Quay condo, they discovered two contraptions that, if activated, would have created an Internet footprint while Ryan killed his family members.

The first device consisted of a laptop computer set up to play a number of comedy files from YouTube while Brett Ryan was outside his apartment and at his mother’s home. The laptop was placed against a wall and held in place by two dumbbells.

The second device consisted of an iPad and iPhone set up on the kitchen table island to send e-mails while Brett was away. These devices faced two oscillating fans that were attached to timers.

This is is unreal. He planned to murder his mom and planted the crossbow in her garage. So was his plan to use the crossbow?

He confronted his mother. When their argument became heated, she phoned his older brother, Christopher, for help.

Brett retrieved the crossbow, stabbed his mom with a bolt, then strangled her to death with a yellow nylon rope.

Brett ambushed Christopher by shooting a bolt through the back of his head when he appeared.

Brett hid both bodies under a tarp in the garage. His younger brother, Alexander, was fatally stabbed with a bolt when he confronted Brett.

Leigh, who lived with his mother, heard the commotion and saw Brett standing over Alexander, who collapsed in the driveway.

Leigh raced inside to phone for help. Brett attacked him immediately, but Leigh managed to escape and phone for help from a neighbour’s home.

TORONTO - They appear to be a young couple very much in love in the many photos they have posted on social media.

Brett Ryan, an ex-con, and Kristen Anne Baxter, a physiotherapist, were even set to marry in Ancaster in less than a month
.
In one of the numerous photos on Facebook — some of which show the couple clutching one another along the city’s waterfront, at Canada’s Wonderland and Niagara Falls — the pair can be seen holding hands and smiling while sitting on the floor of a condo overlooking Toronto’s harbourfront.

In another pic, Ryan jokingly chokes Baxter with a necktie while she makes a funny face as they sit together at a dinner table.

In a disturbing twist, Toronto Police allege Ryan strangled his mom to death.

“One bright sunny day, at York and Queens Quay, there stood Brett waiting, to steal Kristen’s heart away.”

Interestingly, Ryan was convicted of stealing something else four years earlier — wads of cash during a string of bank heists in the GTA.

Someone help me- the only 'bolt' I can picture is something you buy at the hardware store because Ikea didn't give you enough to put together your shelves.

This is so infuriating. What a friggin psycho. I'm sorry - it's cold hearted like this that deserve the death penalty. He elaborately planned the murder of his mother and likely brothers as well.

Sitting on hands. [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35]

To so callously plan the death of a family member/members especially his mother is just sick and all over some foolish lie...he deserves to die.
IMOO wow rhyming.

Ryan’s fiancee Kristen Baxter knew about his past as the Fake Beard Bandit. The petite blonde physiotherapist had met her future husband while he was still on parole and wasn’t fussed about dating an ex-con.
But there were still things Ryan has not been honest about. According to The Star, he told Baxter he had graduated from college in April last year when in fact he had dropped out months earlier.

He got a job at an IT company only to lose it in June 2016 when his employers found out about his bank robber past and fired him. Unable to tell Kristen the disappointing news, Ryan simply pretended he was working from home.
The charade went on for months before Ryan’s mother Susan urged him to come clean about his job loss before his wedding, which was just one month away, even offering to support him until he could get back on his feet again.
However, she also told him that if he did not tell Ms Baxter the truth, she would cut him off financially.

Ryan’s life sentences for the murders will run concurrently.

I spoke to one of the brother's daily on the phone. Sounded like a cool guy. How do you kill 3 family members? to cover up lies? SMH
