A man from Pinehurst is missing after taking a diving trip in the Cayman Islands.

The Royal Cayman Island police say David Byles, 57, has been missing since Sunday morning.

They said Byles had surfaced with his wife and the two were swimming the roughly 100 yards back to the boat when he vanished from view.

An immediate search of the area by the boat’s crew failed to find him.

Now 3 days later they are ending the search for him!? Sounds kinda fishy to me...

Rescuers in the Cayman Islands have ended their search for a North Carolina man who vanished during a diving excursion.

The missing 57-year-old man's tank, buoyancy control device and an article of his clothing have been found in depths greater than 110 feet at the Barracuda Wall dive site. But despite three days of searching, they have found no sign of David Byles of Pinehurst.

Rescuers are searching for a 57-year-old jazz drummer who went missing during a diving trip in the Cayman Islands on Sunday morning.

David Byles was swimming back to the Sunset Divers boat with his wife, Rita Byles, when he disappeared from view about 100 yards away from the vessel.

The North Carolina couple were enjoying an organized dive at the Barracuda Wall off Seven Mile Beach when Byles vanished.

Grand Cayman police on Wednesday called off the search for a North Carolina man who disappeared last weekend after scuba diving near a popular beach on the island's northwest tip.

The decision to end the search was discussed with Byles' wife, police said.

Byles' dive jacket, tank and a piece of clothing were found on Monday in 110 to 135 feet of water near the Barracuda Wall off of Seven Mile Beach, according to police.
