A 2,200-pound Clydesdale named Daniel is on the mend after he plummeted down a 20-foot ravine in Castro Valley earlier this month and had to be hoisted out by a team of Alameda County Firefighters.
Daniel took the tumble into a dry creek bed off Cull Canyon Road in the late-night hours of June 16 and was taken to UC Davis Large Animal Clinic to be treated, the Alameda County Fire Department posted on its Facebook page Thursday.
Firefighters worked alongside an equine veterinarian for 6 hours to pull the horse out of the ravine and get it back on its feet, officials said.
The Alameda County Fire Department said Daniel is making progress and posted dramatic photos of the rescue. His owner personally thanked Fire Chief David Rocha, saying the firefighters tenacity saved the Clydesdale, officials said.
