CO - Gannon Stauch, 11, Colorado Springs, 27 Jan 2020 MEDIA MAPS TIMELINE *NO DISCUSSION*

...
Gannon Stauch was last seen Monday afternoon between 3-4 at his home in the Lorson Ranch neighborhood east of Fountain. His home is on Mandan Drive near Fontaine Boulevard and Marksheffel. He was reportedly going to visit his friend a few streets away.

At one point, deputies thought Gannon had stopped by the *advertiser censored* & Go convenience store on Mesa Ridge Parkway Monday night, but after the mother reviewed the surveillance, she confirmed it was not her son.

The sheriff's office says they have information that leads them to believe Gannon ran away. They did not elaborate further. 11 News asked EPSO Wednesday if Gannon is still considered a runaway and was told he is. Law enforcement and family are concerned about Gannon's wellbeing and are anxious to find him. Gannon's father is a member of the National Guard, and the Guard is also assisting with search efforts.

The department's crime lab was at the house Wednesday, but such a move is standard, as is the involvement of the Major Crimes unit, Mynatt added.

"It's just another information-gathering tool, that's all," she said.

Deputies continued to search for the boy in between calls Wednesday as they did Tuesday, and his information has been added to the FBI's National Crime Information Center database, she said.

A spokesperson with EPCSO sergeant Deborah Mynatt says the reason why the Major Crimes unit was placed as the lead investigators is because Gannon is so young and there is some risk of him becoming a victim.

"It's not normal for an 11-year-old to just run away and not return," Mynatt says. It's also because detectives with Major Crimes can focus more on this case and try to find Gannon before the weather worsens.

Stauch’s step-mother last saw him in his home between 3:15 p.m. and 4 p.m. Monday. The home is in the 6000 block of Mandan Drive in Security, which is just southeast of Colorado Springs.

The step-mother said that some time during the 3:15 p.m. to 4 p.m. time period, Stauch left the home to play at a nearby friend’s house. He has not been seen since.

Stauch is 4 feet 9 inches tall and weighs about 90 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a blue hooded jacket, jeans and tennis shoes.

Anyone with information should contact the sheriff’s office’s Investigations Tip Line at 719-520-6666 or call 911, if appropriate.

“Any information may prove valuable in solving the case and could consist of things as simple as anyone remembering suspicious vehicles or people they saw in or around the area on the date of this incident,” the sheriff’s office said.

Through song, spoken word, and written word, everyone prayed for Gannon to be found safe and sound. Andy Devenport was one of those attending and says for the last 48 hours everyone at their church has been heartbroken since hearing what happened.

"It's really been weighing heavy on all of our hearts just, what's going on?" Devenport says, "Where is he at? Why has it been 48 hours? What're the answers?"

The vigil for Gannon took place hours after about 200 people searched the neighborhood where he was last seen on Monday. Most of the searching was done on foot, but one volunteer drove an off-road vehicle to cover more ground.

The crowd broke off into several groups -- walking through neighborhoods, across open spaces and looking into drainage ditches -- but found nothing.

"We covered a ten-mile radius around his home," says Sara Robertson, an organizer of the search effort. "He left his phone at home, so he can't call anyone. He could be cold, hurt or lost. Some of these volunteers took off from work to be here. We just felt that we needed to do something."

A small group of volunteers searched an open area dotted with homeless camps near the intersection of Platte Avenue and Wooten Road in east Colorado Springs, around 10 miles from the main search area. No specific reason was given for that search.

Also on Thursday, a Sheriff's Office patrol car with two deputies was parked for an extended period of time across the street from the Stauch family home, and two other men appearing to be law enforcement officers sat in an unmarked car down the street.

However, the officers left the scene after two men and a woman got into a pickup truck parked in the driveway, and drove away.

Many people on social media are wondering why more information about Gannon isn't available. As KRDO NewsChannel 13 reported Wednesday, it is the policy of the Sheriff's Office to investigate reports of missing children aged 10 and older as runaways, until evidence is found to prove an abduction or kidnapping has taken place.

In case of missing Colorado Springs boy Gannon Stauch, 11, no news is bad news

No news is bad news in the case of Gannon Stauch, an 11-year-old missing since Monday who has been the focus of an intense search in southeastern Colorado Springs.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday there are no updates on the case, which has drawn the attention of the agency’s top violent-crime detectives as they search for clues to the boy’s whereabouts.

The designation of endangered missing child means that the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office can request help from the National Missing and Exploited team and resources from the FBI crimes abduction division, which includes experts in the field of search and rescue.

Gannon’s mother pleaded with the public for his return at the news conference with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

“Gannon, bubba, little man, mommy’s hero, wherever you are at, we’re here for you. We’re begging for you to come home, I can’t wait until you’re found.“

Jackie Kirby with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office also warned of the rapid spread of false rumors on social media.

“The misinformation that has been spread on social media has been an absolute hindrance to this case. Every rumor, every thought, everything that someone thinks they saw takes away our ability to vet credible tips,” Kirby said.

The sheriff's office said any additional information would be posted to the agency's social media pages.

Stauch's father and his biological mother were at the press conference and made an emotional plea for him to return home.

“I encourage you guys to seek and find him, I’m so thankful for the outpour and help this case has brought," said Landen Hiott, Gannon's mother. "My son is a loving kid and wouldn’t want any harm on anybody. It’s so hard to think why is this happening to him? My kid has a purpose, my kid has a life, it’s important to me and it’s important to everyone standing in this room...

Stauch's stepmother wasn't in attendance at the press conference.

Mahalko said investigators were looking at “persons of interest” in the case as people who might be able to give them additional information on Stauch’s whereabouts.

He declined to say where authorities had been searching but confirmed that investigators had been in contact with some trash companies in El Paso County and in the Lorson Ranch area.
