If I recall correctly, the police didn't even bother to autopsy the dead puppy that they found in the bin, so it doesn't sound like they ever intend on charging LM with animal cruelty. It's a damn shame that animal abuse is not taken more seriously, not only for then animals themselves but because if LM had been locked up and given a long sentence for killing the kittens then JL would still be alive today.

ETA I just went back through the courtroom tweets and they just say that the puppy was not autopsied and had no apparent injuries

I found an evidence picture of the deceased puppy and it appeared to have some material tied around it's neck. I was wondering if it was possibly asphyxiated. It was barely mentioned during the trial. It's surprising they have no cause of death for the poor little thing.

Members of the animal groups who were chasing him for over a year would have made good witnesses at the trial.

The Toronto *advertiser censored* actor denied in a December 2011 media interview that he was behind the Internet videos showing cats being suffocated.

But ten months earlier, he confessed to the cat killings in an e-mail to Toronto criminal lawyer Craig Penney.

Magnotta told Penney he killed the animals in New York City in December 2010. . .
"(Magnotta) said he was forced to do it on orders from a client," Allard continued. "Mr. Magnotta said...the client threatened to kill him if he didn't kill the cats. He mentioned that the client's name was Manny [Manuel] Lopez."
The name Manny has come up several times at trial but it's not clear if he exists.

TBH, I'm surprised he didn't film and upload the murder of the puppy. Or at least boast about it in third person in his final postings.

Allard testified that when Magnotta was working as an escort in Montreal in 2011, he met a woman called Rebecca at around Christmas time. Allard said Magnotta told her the woman had asked him to take care of her pet python. Magnotta had two cats at the time and told Allard that he gave one to the python, drowned the other one and made a video of it all.

Not sure if "Manny" told him to kill these cats too.

LM seemed quite capable of hiding from the animal groups, then fleeing the country and attempting to start a new life with fake IDs after the murder of JL. It's a shame he didn't just put the same efforts towards getting away from this "Manny" character.

Do you guys think this could be the same person? On the left, someone LM was apparently with around the time of the snake incident in 2011 (which is NOT to say that they were involved in the cruelty or even knew anything about it). On the right, a guy I found online who keeps snakes including one that looks like the one in the video (which is a common type of snake to keep, lots of people have them). Picture on right dated 2010.

The ear looks pretty much the same shape/size.
Eyebrows, nose, mouth as well as overall shape of face, are all very close.
Considering pic. quality I'd have to lean towards it being the same guy.

Well, he lives in Illinois, but I can't find anything at all linking him to LM so it may just be a coincidence that he looks like the guy in the picture.

I don't even know that the guy in the picture was really with LM around the time of the snake feeding incident except that his picture is on this site that i'm pretty sure LM set up - don't worry, non-graphic link:

There's a pic of LM with a girl on there too - could she be the girl from the video? But then there are several pictures of LM with Neider Eid too, which I think were taken years before the snake incident and I think LM just put them there to try and get NE in trouble. He seems to have hated him for years, he even posted a ripoff report about him on the day of JL's murder.

So these pictures of people with LM could really have been taken at any time, and he could have just put them on the snake site to confuse people.

When I first saw this thread, I thought it was about cases where animals were used as aids to crime, like getaway horses, or crimes where animals were actually used as murder weapons but I guess I was wrong.

It is an interesting topic though. I believe that some claim that the Beast of Gevaudan in 1760s France was actually a hyena that had been trained to kill humans by some unknown person. There was also Juana Bormann who, as mistress of a pack German shepherds, used the dogs to murder inmates in various Nazi concentration camps. She was hanged for crimes against humanity in December of 1945.

Haha Stanreid This thread is in the Luka Magnotta forum, and it's about LM's crimes towards animals. Before he murdered and dismembered a human being, he liked to kill kittens.

I've been doing a LOT of research on sadistic serial/child killers lately, and it's startling how many have a very early history of animal abuse -- not just small acts of cruelty either, the really horrific stuff. That sort of cruelty is a definite precursor to human victims.

Gotta wonder how old Magnotta was, when he started with the animals..

I've found a few snakes in the right area, but most of their keepers have a lot of reptiles in a dedicated room of their house and seem like responsible people.

I asked Mr. Magnotta about the deceased puppy that was found in one of the garbage bags. He commented that this question was distressing to him because, “that doesn’t feel like me, I don’t know why I would have done that.” After a long pause and consideration he said, “I have a memory of seeing it inside the sink but I don’t remember doing it or why.”
