I read once about the two possible outcomes of a person committing a crime of passion or a lust killing and not getting caught -- i.e. stalker, etc.

One was that they became very organized and tried to live their lives as best they could, possibly turning to religion, etc., to try to atone for what they did.

The second outcome was that they typically let themselves go and committed other crimes, etc., because they didn't get caught for the initial one.

Can anyone point me in the direction of the specifics of this subject? I cannot for the life of me remember where I read it, probably in an article about victims of stalkers or something.

I seem to recall reading something along those same lines.
John Douglas, "Inside the Criminal Mind," would be my best guess.

Thanks for the information. I know I've never read that, but I'll check it out, maybe I read a citation from it or something.
