*Pretrial Hearing (Murder) (@ 9am ET) – CT – Kathleen Marie Flynn (11) (missing on Sept. 23, 1986, Ponus Ridge, Norwalk, found Sept. 24, 1986 in the woods behind Ponus Ridge Middle School) - *Marc J. Karun (21 @ time of crime/53/now 57) – arrested (6/12/19 for a fugitive from justice warrant in Stetson, ME), charged (6/14/19) & arraigned (8/12/19) with capital murder with special circumstance, 1st degree kidnapping & sexual assault. Plead not guilty. $5M bond.
DNA Match; Karun faces a life sentence without the possibility of parole if convicted.
*Was in federal custody in his home state of Maine U.S. District Court where he is accused of illegally storing an arsenal of firearms (60 weapons & 15K rounds of ammunition); in total, Karun owned 34 pistols, 14 rifles, 11 revolvers & one 12-gauge shotgun.
Trial was set to begin on 8/2/22 & 8/3/22 with jury selection has been continued with no further dates.

11/10/22 Update: Hearing has been rescheduled on 2/8/23. 2/8/23 Update: Next pretrial hearing on 5/3/23. 5/3/23 Update: Next pretrial hearing on 6/28/23 @ 9am.
Federal Cases:
*Charged (12/14/19 in Maine-Federal ) & indicted (11/6/19) & arraigned (12/14/19) with possessing a gun with an obliterated serial number, stemmed from allegedly owning a rifle that had its serial number filed away. Plead not guilty.
Police found 60 weapons & 15,000 rounds of ammunition in his Stetson home. As a convicted felon not legally allowed to own firearms.
*Indicted (3/10/21 in Maine-Federal) charged & arraigned (5/18/21) with possession of child *advertiser censored*. Plead not guilty.
Hearing on 5/10/23. No update as of 6/28/23.

On August 16, 2023, the Court denied the defendant’s motion to re-open consideration of the motion to suppress evidence and set the case for jury selection on September 5, 2023. Defense filed a motion to continue the case to the November 7, 2023 trial list. It is likely that the case can be resolved with a conditional plea of guilty that preserves the defendant’s right to appeal the denial of various pretrial motions. There remain a few details regarding the terms of the agreement that must be resolved and defense counsel must determine whether Mr. Karun may participate in any plea hearing by video for reasons concerning his mental and physical condition and the fact that he is incarcerated in Connecticut.
Counsel for the Government does not object to the motion.
Defendant waives his rights under the Speedy Trial Act and requests that the period of time requested be excluded from computation pursuant to the Act.
After full consideration of the representations of the parties in this case and after full consideration of the record in this case, the court hereby incorporates such representations as findings of fact. Taking into consideration the factors set forth in Title 18, United States Code, Section 3161(h)(7)(B), the Court can and does find that the

ends of justice served by the requested continuance outweigh the best interests of the public and the defendant in a speedy trial.
IT IS HEREBY ORDERED THAT:

3. The time period between November 7, 2023 and January 2, 2024 for trial is hereby excluded from calculations under the Speedy Trial Act, Title 18, United States Code, Section 3161 et seq.
SO ORDERED.
