CT - Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings, Newtown, 2012

Yes, and if the Lanzas had had more, they may have been able to arrange a private, secure location for their now-adult son. Or hire a lawyer able to establish guardianship.

Our courts need to responsibly acknowledge mental health problems:

St. Louis County police officer killed in South County; teen faces murder charge

This shooter suffered a traumatic brain injury in a car accident at age 14. He was in & out of mental health facilities for several years. His Dad filed for guardianship, which was denied.

Forster turned 18, checked himself out of Lindberg High School, stopped taking prescriptions & keeping appointments, and killed Blake Snyder.

Forster is still in prison:

Court rejects appeal from man who killed St. Louis County officer Blake Snyder

If his Dad had been named guardian, we probably would never have heard of Trenton Forster or Blake Snyder.

If either of the Lanzas had been named Adam's guardian -- we probably would never have heard of Sandy Hook, Connecticut or of Lanza.

I'm for protecting individual rights, certainly.

There must be a balance, however, with public safety.

Seems rather off-balance here, IMHO.

The Lanzas had money.

Agree completely.

Is anyone filing suit against the mental health system that let the Lanza family -- and the residents of Sandy Hook -- down???

Hhhhmmm, no perceived deep pocket, so no lawsuit?

But what if we simply don't have the treatment for these type of disorders? Just like there is no known lasting treatment for personality disorders at this time? I don't understand how mental health services could be successfully sued for not doing the 'correct intervention' when we don't know as of yet, what actually treats some of these diagnoses.

InfoWars files for bankruptcy in the face of lawsuits over Sandy Hook shooting denial

The media outlet InfoWars filed for bankruptcy in Texas on Sunday in the face of mounting legal pressure over comments made by founder and host, conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.

Jones, who's repeatedly called the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut a hoax, has been sued several times by the victims' family members and others for defamation and emotional distress. Twenty children and six educators were killed in the attack.

Alex Jones ordered to hand over $4,100,000 to Sandy Hook parents. Sandy Hook lawyers had been asking for $150 million. Jones' lawyers had been asking for $8 in compensation. Verdict signed by 10 members of the 12-member jury.

Isn't that just compensatory damages? The punitive damages are decided today, right? Meanwhile, he went on his channel begging for money, claiming he's "bankrupt".

Yes it is!

Watching that (the channel I was watching broke into the courtroom) was so hard, those poor parents were so emotional, rightly so. I hope the healing can begin.
