A team of four Swedish extreme sporters encountered a stray dog during a 430-mile trek through the Amazon rainforest. Arthur - as they named him - then refused to leave them, meaning he endured the last, gruelling two stages of the competition with them. They carried him and stopped to rest when he grew tired. Even when organizers warned a 36-mile kayak around the coast would endanger both Arthur and the team and they tried to leave him behind, Arthur just jumped into the water and paddled desperately alongside.
Team captain Mikael Lindnord put Arthur in the boat.
At the end of the event last November, Lindnord began the tense process of getting permission to take Arthur back to Sweden with him, as he couldn't leave him behind. Arthur, who has been in quarantine there ever since, was due to leave Feb 5th, but that was delayed to allow him to fully recover from his ordeal. He still faces a surgery when he's released, but his happy face seeing Mikael again says it all.
Very touching pictures at the link, including Arthur swimming to catch up with the kayak.
