Found Deceased FL - Douglas Swanson, 28, Jacksonville, 14 December 2014

After doing a little snooping, it seems the wife has moved out of state.

So, this is what we know....

Doug left the party about 1:15 am after getting his truck stuck and being pulled out by a friend who said Doug was going to the beach to pick up chicks. NAMUS confirms him heading to Jacksonville Beach.

His phone pinged at least 2 places we know of.

The wife put a change of address in from his mothers and had everything sent to the apt where they resided.

The wife tried to transfer money out of his personal bank acct., but those funds were frozen and there has been no activity.

There has been no sign of the Tahoe.

The wife was discharged from the Navy 3/1/2015.

The wife has moved out of state.

The diver checked the pond in the apt complex and found nothing.

Where is Doug?

Did he hunt or fish? If so has his favorite spots been checked?

Did he have a favorite outdoor hangout?

Has all his friends been contacted?

Is his phone still turned off or dead?

Did he do drugs? Or drink?

Could he have checked himself into a rehab?

Where is his dog Rex?

Could he be in a jail or hospital in another city/county?

Could he have hit his head when he got stuck and not remember who he is?

Could he be living in a homeless camp?

IDK what to think, but this is crazy! Jmo

Ok, in 2010 on his FB, he says he doesn't sleep. He wakes up with the shakes and sweats. He has nightmares. What's the cause of this? Trama in his past?

He also says he has a passport.

Has airport parking been checked for his Tahoe? Could he have left the country?

1truth...was Doug ever in the Military?

I spoke to the detective yesterday. He was aware that Doug's wife moved out of state and doesn't seem concerned about it. He does not believe she has anything to do with his disappearance as she would have only had a few hours to do something prior to her having to go to work that morning.
I was very disappointed to learn that he has not spoken to anyone that Doug works with on the tug boat. He said he left several of them a message but did not get any returned calls. I did not get the impression he tried to call them again. He was however able to confirm that Doug is not currently working with his company or on any boat at this time.
He was unaware that Doug had a profile on a dating website and I asked him to please look into that to make sure he did not have plans to meet someone off of the internet. He said he would do so and I plan on following up in a few days.
I tried to get the exact time and locations of the cell phone pings and he states that "they are all fudged up." I asked him to explain and he said that Doug's cell phone pinged close to the party after he left and then nothing until the next morning and a few other random pings but that those pings seem to be coming from his old cell phone (I4) and not his current (I5) phone. I am not sure how that would even be possible since the I4 doesn't have service connected to it. I know his mom has that phone and went through all his old contacts to try to locate him very early on but I don't see how that would affect the pings. He said they have been looked over by others and no one can figure it out. I asked him again for the detailed info as I have several people willing to help look it over and search bodies of water and he refused to give me the information stating "this is still an on going investigation." Its very frustrating because LE seems to be doing so little yet they are withholding the info that would help us to have an idea of what areas to search. He assured me that all the waterways get treated every so often and that if he did crash into a body of water it would turn up eventually. I asked him how often the water is treated but he didn't know.
Doug's mom is VERY upset that the detective is not returning her calls/text, that he is not doing more to look for Doug and that he refuses to look into his wife. She plans on contacting his supervisor as well as the media. This "next of kin" stuff is ridiculous. It's obvious Doug's next of kin is not searching for him as she now lives in PA. I really hope Doug's mom is able to get a new detective on the case that will be of more assistance.
Thank you all again for taking interest in his case and for all of your suggestions. I'm sorry I did not post this update sooner; as you can imagine it's been a crazy roller coaster of emotions.

1truth...was Doug ever in the Military?

Doug was never in the military and as far as I know there is no history of trauma with him. In 2010 I was pregnant with his son. During that time Doug had no job/income and him and I were having relationship problems so I am guessing that the stress was causing his lack of sleep and nightmares. He later confessed to me that he got freaked out over the pregnancy and that is what lead to his binge drinking and getting into bar fights. It was definitely a rough patch but he pulled through.

The detective says that Doug's wife has his passport and twic card. He also said it would be flagged if he or someone else tried to use it.

So this is curious... I was looking at the Missing Facebook page and saw an interesting reply to one of the comments. One the "Day 86 Missing" post, someone posted the dimensions of a shipping container. It appears that Doug's Tahoe would fit in a shipping container. Even more interesting is one of the replies to that post. If the man is who he says he is (he claims to be one of the crew members who worked with Doug), he states that the detective has in fact NOT contacted them.

I'm appalled this hasn't gotten the attention it needs.

Doug's mom needs to go over this Det. Head IMO. All the way to the top.

The i4 and i5 have different SIM cards. Meaning the I5 is smaller than the I4. When he received his 5, if he kept the same number it would've been transferred from the 4 to the 5 and deactivated immediately. So, IMO the 4 was not pinging. Now, the 4 being off could pick up a wifi signal and it would connect to the Internet. I know this as fact, cause I just did it with a old 4 last week. A deactivated iphone is just like a iPod once it's deactivated.

The 5 should've pinged all over the place while it was on. Do you know if the Det. Actually got a warrant for the cell provider? I'd be surprised if he actually got one. He also should've taken their computer. When you back a iphone up to the computer it stores files on it that really only someone who knows what they're doing can read. It would've also been backed up to the cloud and/or the computer.

I saw that. And this is what I think, and it's jmo. The Det., needs to go back and talk to everyone at the party. Who was there? Anyone he worked with? Any one that he pissed off and would have access to a shipping container? Could Doug be in the Tahoe that's in a shipping container? Who was the person that said he was going to the beach? All these questions need to be answered. IMO

I also saw where someone thought mom was accusing them of having something to do with his disappearance. Why would someone get mad about that post? I didn't take it as she was accusing anyone. And again, I'd go higher up the chain of command. Jmo

I asked about the Military because I was thinking about PTSD.

ETA: Wait...how could his I4 ping when there's no number assigned to it anyways?

The detective defiantly has Doug's phone records and ping activity but seems to be confused by it as his exact words to me was that "it's all fudged up". I too wondered about the old phone sending a signal when it connected to a wireless router as that would explain why it pinged once near his apt and once near his moms house (phone was passed from wife to mom). I'm also confused because early on LE talked to Verizon who said there is no chance that it came from a different phone on their cell plan but when I spoke to LE the other day he changed the story to indicate that's what most likely cause them to be so "fudged up". I would hope that Verizon would be able to tell the difference between tower pings and wireless routers but I'm not familiar with that sort of stuff nor will LE release the info to me so that I can have a specialist review it.
I learned that the night he disappeared his phone last pinged near south side blvd and Butler blvd. Does anyone know how I can find out locations of towers and how much radius they cover?

I didn't ask LE if he went through Doug's computer but I was not under the impression he did. I am really hoping we can get a new detective that will be more thorough and better about communicating with his family. I feel like there is so much more that can be done but for whatever reason is not.

There is no known Tahoe in a shipping container, the person was just pointing out that it could fit inside of one. The individual who became defensive worked with Doug on the boat and was obviously offended that it was implied they would do something like that and seemed to take it out on his mom although she was not the one who suggested that ave be explored. ...That's how I interpreted it anyways.

Ok, so every modern cell phone (whether connected to service or not) is supposed to have the ability to call 911. So theoretically, it would be possible for the phone to ping off a tower. However, you would think that once the phone is disconnected, it would no longer be associated with your account - meaning that even if it did ping, it wouldn't show up associated with him or his phone number. That being said, would I be surprised if cell phone providers were still able to track your old phone? No, not really.

I totally agree that it would appear the detective is not doing his do diligence. I think a fresh set of eyes should start over, from the beginning, and interview (or re-interview) everyone. I saw his coworker get extremely defensive at that post. I also thought that was out of line. Expecting the detective to interview his coworkers, who he was with for four weeks at a time, is well within reason. Even if that original poster was implying that Doug's Tahoe was in a shipping container, who's to say that Doug didn't want to escape and planned to have his car shipped to a different location? That man jumped to the conclusion that he was being accused of murder when it seemed like a totally reasonable avenue to explore, IMO. I don't feel his mother needed to apologize.

Did anyone catch that last post on Doug's actual facebook page? Not the Missing Persons page. If you follow that trail there's a very unbelievable story about Facebook hacking, the computer crimes unit, and the FBI. It's...ummm...strange to say the least. Apparently in a matter of 4 days, a Facebook page was hacked, the page was deleted by said hacker, the computer crimes unit was on the case, a warrant was issued for IP addresses of both the hacker and suspect, the results were in, and the FBI was involved? Ok, lol. I don't know what that's all about.

I think I can explain this confusion. I just added a business IPhone 5 to my plan, on which I have a personal IPhone 6. I tried to use the same Apple ID on both and found that both phones were connected: they would both ring when I got a call, only one of the 2 voicemails worked, only one could carry data service at a given time, etc. Turns out all phones on the same Apple ID are connected through iCloud, Find My IPhone, the iTunes store, etc. So if Doug's old phone was registered to the same Apple ID, I think it would ping on Find My IPhone anytime it was on wifi. So both phones are pinging on the same Apple ID, which would be very confusing for LE.
