FL - Terrorist Discussion/49 Killed in Orlando at Nightclub Pulse

At one point, Salman was cooperating with the FBI. She told the agency that she was aware of her husband's intentions to attack the club and tried to talk him out of it.

Sources told CNN on Friday that the two were texting during the attack, and that Salman tried to call him several times after news of the shooting broke, but he did not answer.

A grand jury is currently weighing whether or not to charge Salman with a crime for withholding information from police about her husband's plans.

I didn't know she was missing/ went into hiding.

Took the GJ 6-7 months to indict.?

I'm a bit confused. What exactly was she arrested for?

I wondered if she was another "fiancee visa" bride, but no.

The FBI has spent 6+ months building a case against her. I have no doubt the charges will stick. IMO, this woman knew exactly what Omar Mateen was planning, and did *nothing* to stop the murderous carnage. She deserves LWOP, IMO.

This country isn't a middle east islamic country, and women in these kind of marriages here do not fall under "sharia law" in THIS country, even if their immigrant family or spouse chooses not to assimilate to western laws.

A woman in THIS country who is a CITIZEN has a legal responsibility in THIS country to intervene when her dear husband is planning to murder dozens of people, and not help him buy the ammunition, and drive him to the murder location.

Let the full force of the justice system fall upon her. She deserves no sympathy at all, IMO. None. She has the blood of 49 horrifically murdered people on her hands.

Let her case be an example to women in this country whose families and spouses plot islamic terror attacks, while they wait, watch, and help. No mercy.

LWOP would be a just sentence, IMO.

The second wife of the man who went on a rampage inside an Orlando nightclub Saturday, killing 49 people and wounding at least 50 more, lived in this small East Bay town for more than a decade but moved away after marrying her husband, according to a neighbor.

Noor Zahi Salman, 30, lived in Rodeo in Contra Costa County before marrying Omar Mateen in 2013, said Sarwan Kaur, speaking Urdu through a translator. Mateen and his first wife, Sitora Yusufiy, separated in 2009 after just a few months of what Yusufiy described as an abusive marriage.

Zahi Salman has three sisters, and at least one of them still lives in the Rodeo home, along with their mother, Ekbal, the neighbor said

“Her mother would always complain that the husband did not let her visit the family,” Kaur said.

Zahi Salman briefly attended the now-closed Heald College in Concord, according to the website Heavy.com. After marrying Mateen, with whom she has a 3-year-old son, Zahi Salman returned to visit her family only once, when her father, Abdallah, died, Kaur said.

According to NBC news, Orlando gunman Omar Mateen's current wife, Noor Salman, has told the FBI that she drove Mateen to the Pulse nightclub on a prior occasion and that she tried to talk him out of conducting any kind of attack, officials told NBC News. As NBC adds, law enforcement officials said authorities are considering filing criminal charges against her for failing to tell them what she knew before the attack, but no decision has been made yet.

Several officials familiar with what she has told the FBI said she was with him when he bought ammunition and a holster. She also once drove him to the nightclub because he wanted to see it in advance, but that she tried to dissuade him from doing anything, the officials said.

Here's what we know about Noor Salman, the widow of the Orlando gunman

The child of Palestinian immigrants, Salman was born in San Pablo, in the Bay Area, and grew up in Northern California in a hilly neighborhood of tract homes in Rodeo, about 25 miles northeast of San Francisco. She graduated from John Swett High School in 2004.

She had wed once before in an arranged marriage that was organized in the Palestinian territories.

Her relationship with Mateen, a security guard from central Florida, began online, a neighbor said. They were married in Hercules, in Contra Costa County, Calif., on Sept. 29, 2011. The couple have a 3-year-old son.

Court records detail charges wife of Pulse shooter faces

Federal agents say Salman knowingly helped her husband in his support of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, a designated foreign terrorist organization, the court records revealed.

She also is accused of misleading the F.B.I. and investigators with the Fort Pierce Police Department, where she and Mateen lived, according to the records. By misleading investigators, agents said she hindered communication and prevented them from communicating about the offense.

Federal penalty for aiding and abetting terrorism is 10 years to life. Obstruction is also at least 10 years.

I don't think the federal prosecutors will have any difficulty proving either charge.

I think the state of FL could probably also file accessory to murder charges and easily prove the case (49 times over, with 50 attempted murder charges). Don't know if the state will also charge and try her, but I wish they would.

I hope she gets 30+ years from the federal charges. We must begin to prosecute these cases, and the friends and family members who knew and were clearly involved in planning and carrying out terroristic actions, to the fullest extent of both state and federal law.

We have to stop giving the family members a "pass". She KNEW. By her own admission, she knew, and "tried to talk him out of it".

Mariya Chernykh, 26, became the second person convicted in an immigration fraud scheme linked to the December 2015 massacre by Syed Rizwan Farook and his Pakistani-born wife, Tashfeen Malik, who authorities said were inspired by Islamic extremism.

The man she admitted paying to marry her, Enrique Marquez Jr., is charged with furnishing two assault rifles used in the shooting rampage by Farook, a U.S. native of Pakistani descent, and Malik, whom he married in 2014 in Saudi Arabia.

The couple were killed in a gunfight with police four hours after the massacre.

Marquez also is accused of having plotted with Farook to stage similar shooting attacks in the suburbs east of Los Angeles in 2011 and 2012 that were never carried out. He is scheduled to go on trial on Sept. 26.

Farook's brother, Syed Raheel Farook, 31, pled guilty to a single count of conspiracy to commit fraud earlier this month, admitting that he lied on immigration forms that paved the way for Chernykh, his wife's sister, to engage in a fraudulent marriage to Marquez.

Chernykh, a Russian citizen, pled guilty to charges of conspiracy, perjury and making false statements, and now faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine when she is sentenced in November, according to a statement by the U.S. Attorney's Office in Los Angeles. Her would-be brother-in-law, Raheel Farook, could receive up to five years in prison.

His wife, Tatiana Farook, a third defendant in the immigration fraud case, is slated to go on trial in March.

Prosecutors: Pulse gunman's wife helped scout potential targets, including Disney

"I knew when he left he was going to commit the attack," Sweeney said Salman told investigators.

Authorities say Salman initially said she didn't know anything about the attack but later told investigators Mateen abused steroids, was "pumped up" on the night of the attack, and said "this is the one day" as he walked out the door, Sweeney said in court.

"I knew when he left he was going to commit the attack," Sweeney said Salman told investigators.

Sweeney also said the couple ran up $25,000 in credit-card debt and spent $5,000 in cash in the days before the shooting. Among the purchases was an $8,000 diamond ring for Salman. In addition, Mateen and Salman made her the death beneficiary of his bank account.
