Fort Myers nightclub shooting: Police search for suspects

A Houston man said that he and and his family had recently relocated to Fort Myers after he was injured in a shooting in the Texas city. They were unpacking their vehicle after a trip to Orlando when they heard the gunfire outside Club Blu.

"I just feel bad because I ended up taking my family from that situation to find out I moved into that situation again," Juan Santibanez told the News-Press."As soon as I heard the shooting, my wife and kids were coming out, and we hit the floor. My wife started panicking. I just put them on the floor and got on top of them."

He said the shooting happened while parents were arriving to pick up their kids.

"All you heard was just screaming and crying, just people in pain," he told the News-Press.

How sad. Its hard to believe that 14 years ago, I used to drop my 2 girls off at a dance held for their age group in the basement of a church. I figured I had left them in a safe place. I'm sure these parents thought the same thing about this club that wanted to give teens a fun place to get together.

When he heard about it via Facebook, Anthony Thomas, Jr. rushed over to the area to help in any way he could.

He learned that there was an altercation between an artist performing and some young men in the crowd. He said it boiled over into the parking lot, and after the show, the group opened fire on the artist and their entourage.

Thomas said the shooters had little regard for the lives of others, and that led to innocent bystanders being killed.

After the chaos, he noticed that only a few people agreed to speak with the officers that were conducting interviews.

O/T I felt compelled to post this on several threads, in light of magnitude of the Pulse shooting , that body cam footage and a bunch of new documents were released . Found the body cam stuff and posted them on Pulse thread - trying to find the 98 pages of new info. Thought many would want to know

The article about the woman arrested discusses some interesting things about the gun, which says the police believe they have recovered the weapon used in the shooting. It's a Masterpiece Arms pistol, in a unique caliber, according to the casings recovered at the scene. Not your average gun for a street crime, IMO.

The other interesting comment in the article is that the gun was recovered with bullets still in it. And those match the casings. Another indication that a high capacity magazine was used-- or several of them, IMO.

Very likely this caliber, 5.7x28mm.

And very likely this pistol, IMO. Note that it accepts high capacity magazines. 30 rounds.

IMO, no one owns this weapon by accident. It's not your average Glock or Ruger. Someone who has this pistol has it for a reason. The ammunition is not commonly available at just any sporting goods store, either.

Straw purchase,IMO-- purchased in Feb 2015. Jazmin Barron is going to go to federal prison for this, IMO.

According to the affidavit, ATF traced the gun and learned it had been purchased by Barron on February 20, 2015 at Gunsmoke and Lead, LLC.

ATF attempted to contact Barron at the Lehigh Acres address listed on the ATF form required to be filled out by the buyer and seller during the purchase of a firearm. When ATF went to the residence, it appeared to be a vacant lot.

ATF officials were able to find Barron's current residents through the state's driver's license database.

On July 27th, authorities called Barron and asked if she had purchased a Masterpiece Arms pistol from Gunsmoke and Lead, LLC in Lehigh Acres. Barron said she did, but the firearm had been stolen from her residence.

Barron told investigators she could not remember what residence she was living at or which law enforcement agency she notified regarding the theft.

Barron later said the gun had not been stolen, and she still maintained possession of it. She told investigators she would meet with them and provide information about the location of the gun.

Barron later contacted ATF and said she wouldn't meet with them.

On July 28th, ATF agents met with Barron at her place of employment in Fort Myers. She told them she did not want to speak and was seeking legal representation.

Not getting the issue myself - this gal apparently purchased a some sort of Masterpeice weapon, yet she was released on an unsecured bond.

What? The article says she is facing charges - but does not list the charges that carry 5 or maybe 10 years. What did she do wrong? She seems to have followed her constitutional rights.

IMO, they are not done charging Jazmin Barron, or the 3 others. They are waiting for all the evidence to be in before adding on more charges. It's standard.

JB also lied to federal investigators about the gun being stolen. They are going to add on charges for that, as well as for the straw purchase. And other charges. The gun was used in a double murder, and at least 16 other felony counts, for the attempted murder of the others shot. She is going to prison. The only question is for how many years, and which prison. This woman has been to jail and prison before. She's no law abiding angel, IMO.

I'd bet there are definite connections between JB and one or more of the 3 other suspects. They will eventually offer her a plea for a lesser sentence to tell what she knows about them, and the gun, and the shooting. That's how the game is played, very often.

No mention of what the charges are in this article - unless it gets updates at some point.

So a false statement on her address - according to other articles. So no ID required to purchase this itty bitty weapon? Apparently she never resided at the address she gave when it was purchased, or did she have ID with that false address? Either way, seems there will be more such incidents - anyone can circumvent the address hurdle.
