GUILTY FL - Vincent Binder, 29, Tallahassee, 2 April 2010

In Pensacola,FL a woman was cleaning an empty apartment when 3 men came in and robbed her of two cell phones and $90 cash. Two of her fingers were severed as she tried to defend herself from the attackers. The robbers were seen fleeing in a black truck.

It's very frustrating that there was not a national media alert for the escapees.

The three fugitives from Louisiana who were recently apprehended by law enforcement at a Miami hotel have been arrested on charges that they kidnapped Vincent "Vince" Binder, a Florida State University graduate student who has been missing since early April 2.

TPD spokesman Danny Jeter says that the kidnapping charge is the only one of the three charges that is related to Binder case at this time.

Yes, there should have been a national medial alert for the escapees!

Here are a couple of articles related to the woman who was robbed and had her fingers severed by these vicious escapees.

I asked, because I was getting conflicting information that he had been at FSU and University of West Georgia during the 2008/2009 academic year. Thanks for the clarification.
It caused a lot of chaos by me asking but took a shot at getting the information in case you could solve this. I even was banned on a forum. Everyone wants him found but chaos and tension has caused a lot of racial slurs, hate and discontent...but others were asking that question. I tried explaining to a "future cop" that conflicting information changes everything. I tried using an example that if u are looking for a blue bike and the investigation prooves bike is green it changes the course of the investigation. But what ever just found him found. 04/19/10 - 1:50 P.M. Update: Binder's Friends Wary Of Fugitive's Account

Friends of Vince Binder question the word of one of three fugitives charged with his kidnapping that the FSU graduate student approached the men to buy pot in the middle of the night.

“This is coming from a fugitive’s mouth who is going to say whatever he can,” said friend Beth Frady. “I don’t think Vince would be that stupid.”

Tallahassee police also cautioned against putting too much faith in the statement by Kentrell Johnson, one of the three men who broke out of a Louisiana prison then went on a crime spree that ended in Miami.

Spokesman Danny Jeter said investigators have no evidence to support that Binder tried to buy pot from the men. "Who knows what is the truth," Jeter said.

Johnson also told investigators that the three men kidnapped Binder to rob him. After they purchased gasoline in Madison County, Johnson said is accomplices, Quentin Truehill and Peter Hughes, walked off with Binder, but returned without him. Binder remains missing.

When asked if investigators are searching Madison County for the 29-year-old’s body, Jeter said: “We are continuing to try to locate Mr. Binder.”

He said that the intense effort is not confined to one location, but rather involves many leads.

1:20 P.M. Update: Prison Escapee Talks To Investigators About Binder

One of the men now charged with the kidnapping of FSU student Vince Binder told Tallahassee investigators that his fellow prison escapees "didn't have to kill him (Binder) that way."

That is according to a probable cause report released today by the Tallahassee Police Department.

Tallahassee investigators attempted to interview all three of the men who are now charged, but two requested an attorney. Kentrell Johnson, however, told investigators that the three met Binder near a gas station in Tallahassee and intended to rob him, according to the report.

Johnson said that Binder approached them to buy marijuana, according to the report.

Johnson said they told Binder to get in the truck and were planning to rob him. They drove Binder to an ATM, but the ATM was broken. Binder asked to exit the truck, but they would not let him. They drove him to a gas station in Madison County, where they purchased gas with Binder’s card.

"Johnson advised he was high on drugs and fell asleep, but at some point after the gas
was purchased he said Truehill and Hughes (the other two who are charged) walked off with Binder and did not return with him," according to the report.

Johnson then made a statement to the effect that "they didn't have to kill him," according to the report.

Once Johnson realized that Binder had not been found, he then requested an attorney.

Quentin Truehill, Peter Hughes and Kentrell Johnson have been charged with Binder's kidnapping. They escaped from a prison in Louisiana.

Binder was last seen walking from a friend's home on April 2.

According to the report, his credit/debit card was used at ATMs and gas stations in Tallahassee, Madison, Jacksonville and various locations along I-95 South ending in Miami.

Binder’s driver’s license and debit card were used at a Wachovia Bank in Opalocka. The bank clerk became suspicious and alerted security, since all of the occupants of the car were African American, and Binder is caucasian.

The car drove off before security could make contact. Security did obtain the license plate number on the car. The car was registered to a Shirley Marcus of Miami. US
Marshalls visited Shirley Marcus, and met two men, who gave false names.

Miami police recovered a car in Miami that was stolen near where Truehill, Hughes and Johnson escaped from. U.S. Marshalls found a Florida I.D. card belonging to Chris Pavlish of Tallahassee, maps of Tallahassee, and an ATM receipt from Binder’s account in the car.

Pavlish was robbed earlier in the area where Binder was last seen. There was also another robbery, less than a mile away, with matching suspect and vehicle descriptions.

The two men Marshalls saw with Shirley Marcus matched two photos of the escaped prisoners.

Three Louisiana prison escapees accused of kidnapping FSU student from Jupiter

By Michael LaForgia, The Palm Beach Post

8:56 AM EDT, April 21, 2010

Escaped convicts from Louisiana kidnapped a Jupiter High School graduate in Tallahassee, led him into dark woods after midnight on April 2 and then returned without him, police say one of the fugitives told them.

Embarking on a crime spree that would run the length of Florida, escapees Quentin Truehill, Peter Hughes and Kentrell Johnson tried to rob at least one person before happening across Vincent Binder, according to documents made public Tuesday. One of the convicts was carrying a knife, the first victim told police.

In the mood to talk after the trio was arrested in Miami, Johnson told a Tallahassee detective Binder approached them at a Tallahassee gas station about buying marijuana.

They welcomed the 29-year-old Florida State University student into their stolen truck and drove him to a cash machine, intending to rob him. His debit card didn't work, and they drove around some more, police say Johnson said. Binder said he wanted to get out of the truck.

They drove him to a gas station in Madison County, and used his credit card to fill up. Johnson said he was high on drugs, and he fell asleep. He said Truehill and Hughes led Binder into some woods and came back without him.

"They didn't have to kill him that way," he said, according to an affidavit for his arrest. He stopped talking when he realized police had yet to find Binder's body. He said he wanted to see a lawyer.

If the convicts headed south without Binder, they didn't leave his credit card behind. The convicts used the card at ATMs and gas stations in Jacksonville and other areas off southbound Interstate 95, leaving a trail for detectives to follow.

On April 12, authorities arrested the convicts in Miami and brought them back to Tallahassee.

Initially charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, Truehill, Hughes and Johnson now face a charge of kidnapping to facilitate a felony.

The search for Binder, who moved to Jupiter when he was 11 and graduated from Jupiter High School, is continuing. As investigators build their case against the convicts, Binder's family and friends continue to mount a grassroots campaign to find Binder using the Internet.

They held a vigil for Binder on Sunday at Jupiter High School and have set up a reward fund that will be converted into a Florida State scholarship fund if Binder isn't found alive.

Binder's friends raising reward

BY DAVID SÁEZ • DEMOCRAT STAFF WRITER • APRIL 23, 2010

A website dedicated to keeping the word out about a missing Florida State University student has raised nearly $6,000 in reward money for information that helps authorities find Vincent Binder.

From the beginning, Binder's friends and family knew they would need to generate public support for someone to come forward. They hope the online donations on www.helpfindvince.com provide the incentive.

"Right now we have the three fugitives, and we hope that they'll talk, but we're realists, too," Beth Frady, a friend, said. "Those guys drove across (U.S. Interstate 10) and down I-95. Someone had to see them, and they need to come forth."

Binder went missing on April 2, when he left Frady's apartment at about 12:30 a.m. Recently released arrest papers filed locally charge Louisiana fugitives Kentrell Johnson, 39; Quentin Truehill, 22; and Peter Hughes, 22, with kidnapping Binder. Johnson told authorities he last saw Binder in Madison County with Truehill and Hughes, who walked off with Binder and returned without him.

Binder's debit card was used at convenience stores from Tallahassee to Jacksonville and along I-95 to Miami, where the three were eventually arrested.

As of late Thursday, 110 donors generated $5,760 in reward money.

In their worst-case scenario, Frady said, the money will be used to establish a student scholarship at FSU in Binder's name.

For the scholarship to be established and administered through the FSU Foundation, it must total $25,000.

"We still are in the middle of looking for Vince," Frady said. "This reward is definitely legit ... and if no one comes forth, at least we know we have a scholarship fund going."

Anyone with information about Binder is asked to contact the Tallahassee Police Department at (850) 891-4200.

Everything about this case disturbs me... by all accounts Binder was a nice guy, serious student, on track to making a positive mark on the world. Walking home after an evening with friends, he encounters 3 escapees, thugs, looking to get by in life by stealing. This is a perfect example of " Life isn't fair." ...... ulgh!
