Thanks Oldsoul2,
I still haven't given up searching everyday for that 911 call...hopefully now that it is confirmed that it was Nevaeh found they will release it. Michigan takes much longer to release 911 than say FL! :( They have released them from other cases, but I know it was a long wait for them. Even audio interviews, but from the best of my knowledge those often don't get released till after a trial.

Thanks for helping me to keep looking for it! :blowkiss:

I still won't give up looking for it still...

For the family of Nevaeh Buchanan, the prayer has changed.
When the Rev. Sam Luke first met the Buchanans, he was "standing in a room holding the hand of a grandmother and a mother who are terrified. We didn't know if she was dead or alive, so you pray that the Lord will comfort them and give them strength."

Diane Lawson, Nevaeh's great-aunt, once warned Kennedy, a registered sex offender released from prison in 2003 after serving time for fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct, that if "any harm comes to my niece I will see that he gets punished any way he can."

Monroe Mayor Mark Worrell said members of the community have expressed dismay at the circumstances surrounding Nevaeh's disappearance, including questioning the girl's supervision at the time. But he said that such conversations would not prove productive.

"You can be shocked and upset about what has occurred, but we have to keep a cool head about what we do. We have to allow the law enforcement agencies to do what they need to do to go through the right process to find who did this," Worrell said. "We have to be careful about the finger pointing, and there's a lot of that going on in the community."

In the meantime, Nevaeh's closed casket funeral will be held Saturday at Luke's church. The Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office released her body to the funeral home Wednesday, saying in a statement that the cause of death has not yet been determined.

Union Denies Exploiting Girl's Death

LANSING, Mich. - The death of Nevaeh Buchanan is now a hot button issue in Lansing. Questions are being raised about the two convicted sex offenders who were close to the family and how they got out of prison in the first place. However, some believe Nevaeh's death is being exploited.

"I'm angry," said State Corrections Director Patricia Caruso. "Shame on you."

Caruso was responding to a published report in the MIRS newsletter published in Lansing suggesting a link between the Michigan Prisoner Re-Entry Initiative (MPRI) and the death of the Buchanan girl.

UAW Local 6000 contends there are flaws in the MPRI system that could lead to crimes.

"Nevaeh touched a lot of lives, way more after she's passed than before," said funeral director Brian Merkle. "But the fact is that she touched lives, and we're going to celebrate her five years of life."

Pictures of Nevaeh from birth to as recent as a few weeks ago are scattered inside the funeral home, along with her closed casket.

She was born Feb. 3, 2004, and the date of her passing is marked June 4, 2009 -- the day her body was discovered.

"I wanted to thank everybody that helped out … through this whole ordeal. Both sides of the family would really like to thank everyone," said Nevaeh's uncle, Mike.

Sherry Buchanan said the whole ordeal, especially dealing with the family of Nevaeh's father, Shane Hinojosa, has been very difficult on her.

Hopefully down the road, I can prove I am on the right side of the road and can hold my head up high," she said.

"I feel like everyone has a lot of negativity about me," Jennifer Buchanan said. "They don't personally know me. ... I feel like everyone is putting me in the category of ... parents who actually did harm their children. ... It's very frustrating."

Police investigating girl's death look into car stuck in mud near River Raisin
Thursday, June 11, 2009
<snipped>
Family members of Nevaeh Buchanan remained hunkered down inside the family's apartment as a community in mourning prepares for a funeral visitation today for the slain 5-year-old.

Police also are investigating a report that hours after Nevaeh was last seen alive, a Monroe couple helped pull a car out of the mud on the bank of the River Raisin -- the same site where the girl's body was found buried.

Meanwhile, police reviewed surveillance video at a Speedway gas station on Dixie Highway, two doors down from the Motel 7 where George Kennedy lived. Kennedy, a convicted sex offender who befriended Neveah's mother, Jennifer, has been named a person of interest in the case.

A Speedway clerk said the tape showed that Kennedy shopped at the station the night the little girl was last seen, although she didn't know what he bought.

Public welcome at funeral home for Nevaeh visitation
Thursday, June 11, 2009

The girl's now-familiar picture sits next to the tiny coffin inside the funeral home on North Monroe Street. There are photos arranged in two collages in the back of the visitation room -- pictures of Nevaeh as a baby, covered in birthday cake and with schoolmates.

There are also separate photos of her smiling, holding signs of the month. There's a picture of her holding January and February, March and April and even May.

Brian Merkle, manager of the funeral home, said there has been an outpouring of support from the community. He's heard from people from 30 states expressing their condolences.

The support is a reason family members decided to allow the visitation and funeral to be open to all, he said.

"They really felt they had an obligation to make the service public," Merkle said. "I really give them credit for that."

A wooden cross overlooks the small, white casket that is covered with colorful fresh flowers. A small stuffed dog sits in the middle of the arrangement.
A large portrait of Nevaeh on a stand is to the left and a heart-shaped arrangement of flowers with a "daughter" banner is to the right.

The media will be kept across the street to allow mourners privacy. After the funeral, the procession will drive by Munson Park, because she loved to visit there, and the Custer statue because Mr. Merkle said she was interested in Monroe’s famous general.

Her pink and yellow fleece blanket sits on a pedestal to one side; a play firefighter's hat sits on the other. And a pink ribbon cuts through the center of a heart-shaped display of flowers marked "daughter."

At 1 p.m., Sandra Bond, 40, of Monroe was hoping to see her friend, Sherry Buchanan, Nevaeh's grandmother. Neither she nor Nevaeh's mother, Jennifer, were in the funeral parlor room, she said.

"They're not in there," she said. "Just the one uncle's there. I don't know, but they're not there."

As with the rest of the mourners in the room with her, Bond could not hold back tears as she watched a video montage of Nevaeh set to music she said was beautiful.

More than 600 people mourning Nevaeh Buchanan's death filed past her closed casket with her favorite stuffed animal, a beagle named Harley, set on top.

The phone at the funeral home in Monroe was "ringing off the hook," said office manager Sirena Williams, with people seeking information about funeral services for Nevaeh and offering gifts ranging from food to discounted hotel rooms.

"Strangers off the street have been coming in and donating their time, trying to help the staff, seeing if the family needs anything," Williams said.

Other donations included the use of an $80,000 hearse drawn by a Harley-Davidson motorcycle and provided by another funeral home in nearby Flat Rock.

After a second day of visitation at the funeral home Friday, services for Nevaeh will be held at noon Saturday at Stewart Road Church of God. The Rev. Sam Luke said his sanctuary holds 2,000 people.

"I'm sure it will be an overflow crowd," he said.

The hearse then will carry the body of a girl described by her grandmother as a "tomboy" to St. Joseph Cemetery. The procession will pass Munson Park and a statue of Monroe native Gen. George Custer, two of Nevaeh's favorite places to play.

An anonymous donor has made a significant gift to a memorial fund set up to help pay for Nevaeh's funeral expenses, said Kathleen Russeau, executive director of the Community Foundation of Monroe County. The donor asked that the amount not be disclosed, she said.

Any money left over in the Nevaeh Buchanan Memorial Fund will be used to help establish an endowment to pay funeral expenses for children of indigent families.

Oldsoul, I was the one who posted the chart based on Last Seen at 6:30 p.m. Soulscape used the 911 call.

passionflower, I do have Jennifer B.'s planets. The tightest bad aspect was transit Mars exactly atop her Sun in Aries. Mercury moving slowly backward toward a station in the heavens was 4° off her Mars, Pluto was at her Neptune and the Moon was in II on her progressed Mars. The Moon was too early in II to oppose her Uranus. My thinking on the glove is that it was part of the cement mixing operation and belonged to the person who laid the "lid" over his victim. The gloves are so easy to come by that I doubt it would belong to Jennifer B. Do you think the mother was part of the Raisin R. crime scene?

Mourners say goodbye to Nevaeh Buchanan

On Thursday, a day after police questioned a woman about helping extract a black car from the mud behind a stand of bushes near the site where Nevaeh's body was found buried, a second man said he also told investigators about seeing a black car there on two occasions.

Ron Trent, 47, of Monroe said he called police last week to report spotting a black car parked near the bank of the River Raisin two days after Nevaeh was last seen alive.

"I often drive by there on my way home from work; it's a back road I use to avoid the main road," he said. "I might see a car sitting down there once every 20 times I go by there, which is why I remember it."

Trent said he called police and reported seeing the black car after police discovered Nevaeh's body.

"When I heard they found her body there, I remembered the black car," he said. "I never had any idea they'd find that girl's body so far away from where she lived; if I'd have known that, I'd have taken down the license plate number."

But Trent said he did get the license plate number of a black car he saw at the site when he visited the river bank again Saturday.

"I went back there and there was a similar-looking black car," he said. "I walked down toward the river bank and stood there a good 35 seconds. Then I heard a noise, and an old man came out of the bushes. He was acting kind of strange.

"I told him, 'It's a shame someone would do something like this to a little girl,' and he said, 'Yeah, I can't believe it.' He had a weird look about him."

Trent said the elderly man had a long gray beard and wore a cap. "He had one of those 'biker wallets' -- the kind that has a chain attached to it," Trent said. "I took down his license plate number and reported it to the police."

Mourners call for justice
June 12, 2009

The memorial card handed out to mourners lists Nevaeh's date of death as June 4 -- the day two fishermen discovered her body covered with quick-dry cement mix in a hole on the bank of the River Raisin in Raisinville Township.
"So much sorrow," said Ron Vollmer, 55, of Monroe, who put more than 400 miles on his truck searching for Nevaeh, who disappeared May 24. "We need justice."

Monroe County sheriff's officials on Thursday asked for information from anyone who fishes in the area where Nevaeh's body was found along Dixon Road.

Lisa Tibai, 22, of Monroe -- who told investigators this week that she and her fiancé helped tow a car stuck in mud near the edge of the River Raisin -- was relieved Thursday to find out Nevaeh's body was found on the opposite side of the river.

"It has nothing to do with me helping weirdos -- just two kids needing help," she said.

"I'm completely innocent," said the girl's mother, Jennifer Buchanan. "I didn't have anything to do with my daughter's disappearance. I don't do drugs. I hardly ever drink. I don't owe anybody any money. I have hardly any enemies. I don't understand who would come up and take my child."

Police haven't announced any suspects in the case.

"The monster, or whoever he is, I wish he would just turn themselves in," said Nevaeh's aunt, Diana Lawson.

Published reports have said investigators found an empty beer can and a cigarette butt near where Nevaeh's body was found. They have been sent to crime labs for testing.

"There are actually excellent sources of DNA because there are cells that deposited on the end of the cigarette butt from the lining of the mouth and the lips. In addition, pop cans - again you can have cells from the lips and the inside of the mouth," said Heather Vitta with the Michigan State Police Biology Unit.

"Someone who would take a child ... do what they want with them … bury them in concrete in a shallow grave … you have to have a pretty twisted mind to do something like that," said Nevaeh's uncle Shawn Lawson.

Buchanan has been criticized for befriending two convicted sex offenders.

"There are a lot of people saying it's her fault -- her fault she should have been better about it…but you learn from your mistakes, and sometimes mistakes you can't really take them back, like this situation here," said Lawson.

'I hope they get some peace'
June 12. 2009 11:18AM
<snipped>
An acrylic painting of a garden splashed with purple and yellow colors with the name "Nevaeh" now stands alongside Nevaeh Buchanan's casket at Merkle Funeral Service.

Carla Russell of Toledo painted the approximate 4-foot-wide painting as a gift to Shane Hinojosa, father of the 5-year-old girl whose disappearance and death has saddened the Monroe community.

Without knowing the family, Ms. Russell felt compelled to participate in the search for Nevaeh after she went missing May 24.

As an artist in the Toledo area, Ms. Russell also offered her support by making prayer boxes. Still hoping to do more, she was inspired to paint for the family. The artwork is a bright-colored picture of a garden with purple and yellow as the dominating colors since they were Nevaeh's favorite colors. The garden-theme picture includes flowers, bees, rhinestones and butterflies.

"I hope they get some peace when they look at it," she said before presenting it to the family Thursday at the funeral home. "I want them to smile when they see it. I want them to have happy thoughts (of Nevaeh) when they look at it. I hope it's something they can treasure."

The family, Ms. Russell said, appreciated the gift. They immediately found an easel and set the painting by the casket for everyone to admire.

Carla Russell of Toledo made a painting to give to the family of Nevaeh Buchanan during Thursday’s funeral service.

I had a very strong feeling that whoever did this was spotted...not necessarily in the act but in some other way. I thought almost for sure that this was it....killers have a natural talent exposing themselves in someway, whether returning to the scene to ease their fear or leaving a bear can, a cigarette but, gloves or in other cases stickers etc...behind. It's called our greater power of undeniable, unavoidable conscience. I know LE didn't leave those things....goes to show the more they think they are above the law and morality, the more they let everyone know there not all by themselves....."give someone enough rope and they will surely hang themselves"

As visitation continues for Nevaeh Buchanan Friday, authorities continue to follow all leads regarding how the 5-year-old girl was killed.

Police have made no arrests in the case and have not named any suspects. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says they are asking for anyone who has recently been in the area where the body was found to please call the Task Force Tip Line. Authorities are requesting information from anyone who has fished the area or has seen any vehicles or persons at that location.

Evidence gathered from the scene where the body was found last week has yet to come back from analysis at a Northville, Mich. crime lab.

Forensic analysis of evidence found at the grave site is being conducted by the Michigan State Police's crime lab in Northville. No results have been turned over, officials said.

"It was difficult and I knew it was going to be difficult, but seeing the casket and seeing just how small it is, it hits home," said Serena Major. She and her best friend, Kelly Metzger, are two of hundreds who searched for Nevaeh Buchanan days after she disappeared. They felt compelled to say good-bye.

They share that same feeling with so many others who came to pay their respects at the funeral home. Some mourners came from as far away as Tennessee, all of them hoping someone will pay for a crime that has devastated this close-knit community.

Authorities are still sifting through close to 1,200 tips and about a thousand interviews and are still trying to figure out if there is a connection to sex offenders George Kennedy and Roy Smith, once persons of interest arrested on parole violations.

We're told the key to solving this crime may lie in the evidence collected at the scene where Nevaeh was found. Police are still waiting for DNA test results to come back. Meantime, Neveah will be laid to rest on Saturday at noon at Stewart Road Christian Ministries in Monroe.

Family, friends gather for Nevaeh's funeral

Residents lined the streets of Monroe today as a Harley-Davidson hearse -- to honor her love of motorcycles -- carried her tiny white coffin through the town. An escort of at least 100 motorcycles led the mile-long funeral procession past the parks where she played and statue of George A. Custer sitting atop his life-size horse she admired.

During Nevaeh's funeral at Stewart Road Christian Ministries Center, the little girl's grandmother; Sherry Buchanan; mother Jennifer Buchanan and father Shane Hinojosa, stayed surrounded by friends and family members. None spoke during the service, which included a duet of the Beyonce song “Halo” and an expressive dance performance set to a song emphasizing God’s grace. A trio also sang a song they wrote titled "Nevaeh," reminding mourners her name was heaven spelled backward.

Nevaeh’s uncle, Mike Buchanan, broke down as he read a poem by Ferna Lary Mills dedicated to children who have been murdered.

“Horrific as our life now seems, one thing remains quite true,” he read. “Our little ones have now been freed to do things angels do. They can't recall the horrors of those last days they were here. They remember not the terror, the hurt, nor the fear. There is no fear in Heaven. No more sorrow. Only Joy. It's filled with joyous laughter from each little girl and boy.”

"That one little girl was so powerful, she brought the community together," said Dale Hayford, senior pastor of Crosswalk Community Church of Monroe, who along with the Rev. Sam Luke officiated at the service.

A slideshow with pictures from Nevaeh's life ran on two large screens during the service.

Three members of VASS Majority, a local music group, performed a song written for Nevaeh with a chorus that concluded: "Because of her, we won't be the same."

"Nevaeh became every parent's or grandparent's 5-year-old," Monroe Mayor Mark Worrell told The Associated Press by phone after attending service.

Over a thousand people paid their respects to the little girl whose first name is "heaven" spelled backward during her two days of visitation Thursday and Friday.

After the funeral service that lasted just over 2 hours, family members climbed into awaiting vehicles and were escorted to nearby St. Joseph Cemetery by a hearse drawn by a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. The procession included more than 100 vehicles and 60 motorcycles, paying tribute to the girl who counted a miniature motorcycle among her favorite toys.

Young Nevaeh finally laid to rest

During a somber ceremony Saturday afternoon at the Stewart Road Christian Ministries Center in Monroe, two pastors assured the large crowd of at least 500 that Nevaeh — whose name was heaven spelled backwards — had gone home to be with Jesus Christ.

The celebration of life service also featured poems written for Nevaeh by her father, a song about the young girl and the life she had lived, and a video slide show that showed happy moments from a life cut short by an assailant who has yet to be caught.

Even after the body was discovered, family members held out hope that the body was not that of Nevaeh, but the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office announced this week that DNA testing confirmed her identity.

The sheriff’s office has released no more information on the autopsy being performed by the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office in Detroit and it has said it is tracking down more than 1,100 tips that have poured in.

Thank you for the pics, Angel. The celebration of her life is touching. So many colorful balloons. I've never heard of a motorcycle hearse - a truly unconventional Aquarian funeral. How fitting! I am choking up, wondering if she ever had a motorcycle ride while she lived. You went there, then?

i saw a harley hearse once for the funeral of a respected biker, there were over 2000 at his funeral the majority on harleys....

The Harley Hearse:
My hubby is in the army and in the last month was assigned to casualty assistance to help the family of a fallen soldier. He had to plan the entire funeral. He learned a lot about the motorcycle Hearse and in Army funerals it is very common. It seems to always fit nicely with the patriot guard... the group set up to protect military members from the likes of [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Phelps"]this crazy man![/ame]

Some 700 people attended the funeral service in Stewart Road Church of God for the girl whose disappearance triggered a massive search by police and residents alike. Her death, still under investigation, cast a shadow of grief over the close-knit, blue-collar city of 22,000.

The two-hour service included prayers, Christian songs and a performance of Sarah McLachlan's "Angel." A local music group sang a song written for Nevaeh that concluded, "Because of her, we won't be the same."

After the service, a procession led by nine police officers on motorcycles traveled 2 1/2 miles to St. Joseph Cemetery. They were followed by a Harley-Davidson motorcycle drawing the hearse bearing Nevaeh's casket. Next were another 60 motorcycles and about 100 cars, including one carrying Nevaeh's mother, Jennifer Buchanan, and grandmother Sherry Buchanan.

Some 500 mourners looked on as Hayford and Luke spoke at Nevaeh's gravesite. The service concluded with funeral director Brian Merkle releasing a white dove into the gray sky.

"I wanted to thank everybody that helped out … through this whole ordeal. Both sides of the family would really like to thank everyone," said Nevaeh's uncle, Mike.

"The family's exhausted," said the family's pastor, the Rev. Dell Rayford. "They got the word and now just have to deal with it and bring closure."

In addition, pop cans -- again you can have cells from the lips and the inside of the mouth," said Heather Vitta with the Michigan State Police Biology Unit.

Nevaeh's family said the 5-year-old will be laid to rest with the religious song, "I Will Be Here." A local man named John Vass, also performed a song he wrote in Nevaeh's memory.

Investigators are going through the names of searchers again to see if the killer or witnesses could have been among them.

A memorial fund was established to pay for Nevaeh's funeral expenses. Money remaining in the fund will be used to help establish an endowment to pay funeral expenses for children of indigent families.

Weary community bids Nevaeh a teary farewell
Music and dance honor her memory

During Nevaeh's funeral at Stewart Road Christian Ministries Center, the girl's grandmother Sherry Buchanan; mother, Jennifer Buchanan, and father, Shane Hinojosa, were surrounded by friends and family members. None spoke during the service, which included a duet of the song "Halo" by Beyoncé. There was an expressive dance performance and a trio sang a song they wrote titled "Nevaeh," reminding mourners the name is heaven spelled backward.

Before Nevaeh was laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery, her uncle, Mike Buchanan, broke down as he read a poem by Ferna Lary Mills dedicated to children who have lost their lives violently.

"Horrific as our life now seems, one thing remains quite true
Our little ones have now been freed to do things angels do."

Nevaeh is in heaven
June 14. 2009 12:02AM
<snipped>
“As we commit her body in these beautiful surroundings, her spirit is in the presence of the Lord,” said Rev. Sam Luke of the Stewart Road Christian Ministries Center, where earlier nearly 700 filled the church to hear eulogies, songs and poems memorializing the little girl, who name is “heaven” spelled backwards.
Family members had filled the first few rows of the church, consoling one another and dabbing away tears during the service.

A cause of death hasn’t been determined and police say no results from analysis of evidence submitted to the Michigan State Police crime lab has been received yet. But about 1,200 tips are being processed by a multi-agency task force.

Fishermen May Be Key In Nevaeh Case
UPDATED: 8:24 pm EDT June 15, 2009

Police said they are hoping a particular group of people will help solve the mystery of who kidnapped and killed Nevaeh Buchanan.

Thousands of tips have been called in since Buchanan’s body was discovered, found encased in cement by a fisherman along the River Raisin on June 4.

Gino Dalessio said he’s been interviewed by the FBI four times. He said he was one of the last people to see the girl, playing outside the Charlotte Arms Apartments.

“She was in there, playing,” Dalessio said, pointing to a corner of the parking lot. “Playing with another little boy … there was a lot of kids out here, they were just playing.”

Person of interest in Nevaeh case left free despite actions
Tuesday, June 16, 2009

George Kennedy's parole officer urged corrections officials three times to send the convicted sex offender back to prison for violating the terms of his parole, but each time the officer's supervisors overruled the recommendations.

Kennedy, 39, who has been named by police as a person of interest in the murder of 5-year-old Nevaeh Buchanan, was released from prison in July 2007, after serving five years for having sex with a 15-year-old girl. Within three months of his release, he had violated the terms of his parole, said John Cordell, spokesman for the Michigan Department of Corrections.

"In September 2007, his (parole officer) violated him for consorting with other people who had felony records," Cordell said.

"In this case, the supervisor obviously thought it better to send (Kennedy) back for more intense therapy."

Meanwhile, police continue to investigate convicted sex offenders in the area for possible clues.

According to neighbors, FBI agents have twice visited the Monroe home of Vernon Davis, a 33-year-old man who was convicted in May 2007 of having sex with a minor younger than 16. Davis served no prison time for the offense, records show.

The Michigan Sex Offender Registry reports that Davis' home address is an apartment complex on Bacon near downtown Monroe. But his neighbor, 24-year-old Katherine Taormina, said Davis is never there. She said FBI agents questioned her about Davis after Nevaeh was reported missing.

Also Monday, Wayne County Medical Examiner Carl Schmidt said he had not yet completed Nevaeh's autopsy. He added that any further information would have to come from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff's officials on Monday did not return telephone calls seeking comment.
