Now, attorney Doug Weinstein is asking questions now.


Weinstein asked for the Winfrey jail calls to be played again. After that, the state questioned Raissi on re-direct.


Raissi testified that he never had the physical phone from any of the phone call records.


Raissi testified, "the investigation revealed that the beef was between Jeffery Williams (Young ) and Dwayne Carter (Lil Wayne)", after Steel objected to the questions, but Glanville allowed the question by Hylton.

It’s been more than a year since a deadly shooting in southwest Atlanta claimed the life of Derrick Williams — a 51-year-old father of six.

His grieving mother, Barbara Williams, says court delays caused by the historic trial of Atlanta rapper Jeffery Lamar Williams — also known as Young — are keeping her family from getting closure.

The massive RICO trial in Fulton County Superior Court is already the longest in Georgia history, and on May 27, it will hit the six-month mark.

The mother of #YSL rival Donovan Thomas Jr. emotionally testified when she last saw and spoke to her son before he was killed in a drive-by shooting on January 10, 2015. Some alleged YSL gang members are charged in Thomas' murder.

Murdered #YSL rival Donovan Thomas Jr.'s mother recalled the time her son's gravesite was vandalized on Father's Day in 2019. Thomas' mother said the word, slatt, was written on it in green. The word is allegedly associated with YSL.

After 80 days of court, the state is now introducing testimony regarding the Donovan Thomas murder, which occurred in 2015.First witness, Donovan Thomas' mother Shawanna Edmond.


Edmond began to get emotional after Chief Deputy DA Love showed her a picture of Donovan Thomas. Edmond testified that they used to call him peanut. She said the last time she saw her son was on January 9, 2015. He was killed the next day.


Edmond testified that she spoke to Thomas the day of his death. Glanville seems to want the state to focus on the murder, instead of asking irrelevant questions.


Edmond said Thomas and YFN Lucci worked together and even saw them interact.


"My son's death was a homicide," Edmond testified.



Edmond said she learned of her son's death through a phone call and she knows her son was shot and killed.


Edmond said she often visits her son's grave. She said, on Father's Day 2019, he saw her son's grave had been vandalized with the word, "Slatt".



Edmond testified that she is familiar with Jeffery Williams but Thomas never brought him to her house. She said that she heard the lyrics "rounds in a Tahoe" that caused her concern. The lyric is from YoungThug's song, "Slime *advertiser censored*" - "Hundred rounds in a Tahoe”.


Edmond testified that she knew her son was in a Blood gang, after she asked him about it.


Love just asked Edmond, "Did your son ever bring anyone to your home by the name of..." adding the name of an alleged YSL member, including the five others on trial right now, at the end of the question. For each question, Edmond said "No, not to my knowledge.”


Shannon Stillwell's attorney Max Schardt is the first to cross-examine Edmond. Edmond said they didn't call law enforcement after her son's grave was vandalized and doesn't know if anyone was charged or arrested for it.


YoungThug's attorney Brian Steel starts with offering condolences to Edmond. Steel shows an Instagram post, which he has shown previously, of YoungThug and Donovan Thomas. Edmond identified both.


After a long break, Steel is now showing a promotional posters featuring YoungThug, Birdman and Paris Hilton that Donovan Thomas posted on his Instagram account in 2014.


Steel is now playing the "Freestyle" music video. He paused it around the 20 second mark and asked Edmond to identify the two people in the video. She identified her son, Donovan Thomas, in the white shirt doing a handshake with Rich Homie Quan.

Steel showed a screenshot of a music video in which Young is standing next to Donovan Thomas' brother.Steel has concluded his cross-examination.


Chief Deputy DA Love asks if she saw Young at Thomas' funeral, Edmond testified that she did not.She testified that she didn't see Young with Donovan Thomas after December 2014.


Shawanna Edmond's testimony is done and she has been permanently excused as a witness.


Next state witness is APD investigator Darin Smith.


Smith is testifying about the Donovan Thomas murder.

Court is done for the day and will resume next week on Tuesday May 28 at 9:30 a.m.

ATLANTA — The trial involving rapper Young and the alleged YSL street gang continues on Tuesday.

Tensions in court have continued to be elevated as the trial proceedings extend into the summer after beginning last November. Judge Ural Glanville introduced some new rules to the court in an effort to speed things up, and Glanville was in a fiery exchange with attorneys.

YSL/Young trial is back underway after a week-long break. APD investigator Darin Smith is testifying about the Jan. 2015 murder of Donovan Thomas.


I've been busy with other stuff today but attorney Max Schardt is now cross-examining Smith.


Smith is testifying about the Donovan Thomas death investigation. Smith is now part of the internal affairs unit at APD.


Smith is done testifying and he has been permanently excused as a witness.


The state's next witness is Hubbard Parker, the owner of the barbershop near where the Donovan Thomas shooting happened.


Parker has been permanently excused as a witness. He joked with Glanville about him going to his barbershop before leaving the stand.


Court is done for the day.

Friday starting at 1 p.m.

Juror #187 appears to live near one of the crime scenes, she notified Judge Glanville and he told her that it shouldn't be an issue but just told her not to discuss it with anybody else, to not take pictures and to only consider what she hears in the courtroom.
