GUILTY GA - Theresa Parker, 41, Lafayette, 21 March 2007 - #3

This is almost literally in my back door. It's been terribly sad that Teresa got so little coverage after the first few weeks. The police arrested a friend of Sam's for lying and put out great big headlines that said "arrest in the disappearance of Teresa...." so everyone thought the case was solved. Sam's cooling his heels in the county jail, but the body has never been found. He's treated like a saint, because he was a cop in Walker County, he's being housed in Catoosa County jail nearby. They need to finish this and get him off to prison. They've already taken the DP off the table.

This case has just drug on and on. What are they waiting for anyway? Probably the defense attorney dragging his heels. Sam should be treated like poop in jail...especially since he was a cop! He is a disgrace to LE name

I guess he was right when he said that he could kill Theresa and they would never find her. I hope he gets LWOP when he finally goes to trial. Poor Theresa.

Sam Parker Battles Murder Charge in Court

It's been more than two years since Walker County 911 Dispatcher Theresa Parker's disappearance, her estranged husband Sam Parker is in court battling charges against him that he killed her. Today before Walker County Superior Court Judge Jon "Bo" Wood, Parker's defense team, led by Public Defender David Dunn made numerous motions.
Our crew in the courtroom tells us the main one heard so far this morning is the defense challenging all four counts of the indictment against former police officer Sam Parker for lack of specifity. The defense says there is no evidence Theresa is dead and the indictment doesn't say how she died.

Parker murder trial pushed back

Sam Parker, the former LaFayette, Ga., police officer charged with murder in the disappearance of his wife, will not go on trial June 8 as planned.
Mr. Parker’s attorney, public defender David Dunn, said this morning he has learned that Superior Court Judge Jon “Bo” Wood had a scheduling conflict on that date.
Mr. Dunn said a new trial date has not been selected. Another motion hearing in the case is scheduled for May 15.

Witness in Sam Parker Case Dies

A material witness in the case against Sam Parker is dead.
At a hearing in april, the district attorney made a motion for 71-year-old Alice Cordell to give a video deposition.

That deposition was recorded, and Cordell died Saturday. We don't know what information she has in the case.

A fellow officer from the LaFayette Police Department testified about Sam Parker's behavior. He said Parker placed a grim reaper sticker on door and showed people a bullet extracted from a person he killed in line of duty. The officer says he saw Parker use a rear choke hold technique to get people's attention. The officer demonstrated on the prosecutor.

The third witness, another officer, testified he called Sam Parker after Theresa was missing. He said Sam wanted to know if "they" asked him to call.

Yet another officer came to visit Sam Parker and he said Sam made him pull up his shirt to show he wasn't wired.

For the first time, the jury actually heard from Sam Parker in his murder trial this morning.

The former LaFayette, Georgia police sergeant didn't take the stand, but the prosecution played his first recorded interview with the G-B-I.

Investigators are trying to pinpoint Sam Parker's location and activities on the morning of March 22nd.Last week, Christy Bellflower took the stand. Bellflower and Parker had just started seeing each other that March. Under oath, Bellflower said Parker left her LaFayette apartment around five that morning.

Today, the jury heard Parker tell the G-B-I, he left her apartment at six.

The jury has this case now. They got it yesterday, on Monday, and so we wait. There is much talk around town about this. The consensus is that while everyone is sure Sam is guilty, no one is sure the evidence was shown to convict. Truly a sad case. Even if the vote to convict, he still has no reason to give up the location of the body. No matter which way it goes, I'm afraid the family of Theresa still won't have the closure they crave.

Parker guilty!!! Sentenced to life in prison!

Thanks, newuser, for the update. I wasn't confident the jury would come back with a guilty verdict but am glad to read this. Now - if only they could recover Theresa's body.

Parker guilty!!! Sentenced to life in prison!

OMG! Excellent! I was too nervous to peek. I was thinking that Chaffin's testimony was the most damaging but you just never what a jury will do with that type of testimony. Now, to find Theresa...

Sam Parker, the ex-cop on trial for murder, has been found guilty of murder.

Parker has also been found guilty on two other charges -- making false statements and violating oath of office.

He has been found not guilty on the charge of computer invasion of privacy.

Judge Jon “Bo” Wood sentenced Parker to life in prison on the murder conviction, five years for the false statements, and five years for violating oath of office, all to run concurrent.
