The white Chevy Tahoe with two Troup County Investigators and a murder suspect in the back seat drove in from Mississippi around 7:30 Tuesday night.

Quintuple murder suspect Thomas Jesse Lee emerged with legs and arms shackled...

Lee is scheduled to make his first court appearance at 9 a.m. Wednesday morning at the Troup County Government Center.

Thomas Jesse Lee's initial hearing provided little detail in the reason behind the multiple homicides police say he committed last week.

Two details that did emerge from the autopsies were that Lee's wife's stepdaughter, Bailey, died from asphyxiation, officials said. Authorities reported that four of the five victims died from gunshot wounds. Also, Lee's father-in-law, William Burtron was beaten before he was shot, officials said.

Lee's probable cause hearing is set for Feb. 19. He was denied bond Wednesday morning.

I live in the town he went to the church who also got him to tupelo bus station. I know many from that church and this story is so eerie, knowing you had this man sitting next to you, in front of you, or behind you. He went to all services that Sunday. The paper doesn't tell the whole story of him being here, but anyway, he played on the kindness of us. Thankfully no one else was harmed or killed in his path.

Lee’s case will now head to Troup County Superior Court where the district attorney’s office may consider sending it to a grand jury for indictment...

A bond hearing could also occur if requested by the defendant. Only a superior court judge can set a bond on a murder case, Gordon said.

The Troup County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday it has recovered a “significant” piece of evidence related to the slaying of five people last month on Woodstream Trail in unincorporated Troup County.

TCSO investigators are not saying what the evidence is, citing the ongoing investigation, but said the property was found in Florence, Alabama, on Wednesday and possibly ties suspect Thomas J. Lee, 26, to the area.

The item was recovered by the Florence Police Department, which contacted TCSO investigators who traveled there to retrieve the item.
