GUILTY GA - Timothy Johnson, 7, dead after home invasion, DeKalb County, 16 Sept 2007

From the article linked below: Police back stepped from their initial indications the crime was a home invasion and instead called it an isolated, not a random crime. They said the family was the victim of a crime at another location in 2006 and investigators want to know if the double shooting is connected to that crime in any way.

Did the crime in 2006 result in a trial, previous of upcoming? Retaliation maybe?

Hmm. This is from http://www.scandekalb.com/modules.php?name=News&new_topic=8

The mother of the children and their grandparents were in the house when the two were shot. Authorities say whoever did the shooting was able to get in and out of the home without being spotted. Neighbors reported hearing a series of gunshots.

Except it is not mentioned anywhere else in any of the articles I've read about it.

In the Atlanta Journal Constitution it says this though:

She said they did not hear the gunman enter the house, and were awakened by the gunfire. No one saw the gunman leave after the shooting, Parish said.
Investigators had found no witnesses among other residents in the neighborhood off Candler Road in south DeKalb County, Parish said.

*ponders* Who to believe....

Do you think by "no witnesses" they mean no one who saw the shooter (or a vehicle, etc)? As opposed to no witnesses to the event at all, I mean.

I bought my first home in a neighborhood a few miles from this area - up Candler Road near Agnes Scott College. What a sad story. My love and prayers to this family.

Wow. I lived on East Howard Avenue for a while, exactly across the tracks from ASC. Tiny world LOL.

Teeny tiny, JanetElaine! :) My 1st house was on Midway Road - about a mile up from East Howard - it runs between Candler and Columbia.

I lived in Decatur for many years before moving to the burbs!

Early 90's? If you tell me you used to get ice cream at the DQ on the corner (triangle) there, I'm going to scream. LOL

Not just ice cream - BLIZZARDS!!!! The DQ by that, ahem, "questionable" motel!!! I LOVE Deactur with all my heart and hated to leave.

Let's see - in the early 90s, I was living in Candler Park and I bought my house on Midway Road in 1997!

*screams* :D

My 'temporary home' was just on the other side of the questionable motel (*giggles*). It's a bar/tea garden/whatever now. It used to be this hippy place with people from all over the US and the world living there for shorter or longer times. John, the owner, was gay.... man I wish I could track him down, I'd love to know how he's doing. Ahhh... the good old (wild) days. If you look at the building, if the window on the left of the door is still there, that's where my sleeping quarters were. :)

Sorry to go this off topic btw!

Slain 7-year-old's mom was to testify
Boy fatally shot, teenage sister wounded as they slept; police say attack may be related to earlier home invasion robbery.

"The people in that house had a court date that was scheduled for today," Williams said. "This is an unusual case. We're trying to see if we can put the pieces together.

"I don't know if the children were the targets or they [the gunmen] hit the wrong room."

Family members said they awoke to the sounds of gunfire early Monday morning, police said. Both the children were shot multiple times and the boy later died at the hospital. Police said initially that the girl was in critical condition. Late Monday night Williams said the girl was reported as stable.

From September 2013:

http://www.ajc.com/news/news/crime-law/dekalb-suspect-to-plead-guilty-in-killing-of-7-yea/nZnSk/

Willie Kelsey killed a 7-year-old with 11 shots, and put five bullets in the child’s teenaged sister for only $100 and a show of loyalty to a friend.

His goal was to kill or intimidate witnesses to a brutal 2006 home invasion as part of his loose affiliation with a violent robbing crew that bullied DeKalb County homeowners, businesses and drug dealers for three years...

Kelsey accepted a negotiated plea deal that would give him life with the possibility of parole plus 80 years in prison, as opposed to the death sentence prosecutors initially sought when he was indicted in 2007.
