CUE Center works to bring closure for families of missing persons

Monica Caison has spent the past twenty years working to bring justice to families of missing persons.

She founded the CUE Center for Missing Persons in 1994, after several close personal encounters with the families of missing people.

"I've been directly affected by missing persons and I see the anguish of the unknown fate the families go through - that anguish just waiting, not knowing where their loved one is, what's happening, what's going on, and they just want a resolve," Caison said.

Today, she has a network of nearly 15,000 volunteers across the country who work on thousands of unsolved cases.

A day after a volunteer opportunity was announced for an organized search for clues in the disappearance of Heather Elvis, nearly 100 people braved frigid winds Friday morning to search a wooded area near Myrtle Beach.

For many volunteers it was an opportunity to physically do something to help facilitate a resolution in the 20-year-old’s disappearance, but for others it was a call to help their neighbors and a family struggling for answers as to what happened to a loved one.

Cold weather, rough terrain greet searchers for missing woman

The search for Heather Elvis, 20, centered around one area on Tidewater Road.

Hot coffee and hand warmers were the order of the day, as searchers braved wind chills in the low twenties, but that did not cool the enthusiasm of the nearly 100 volunteers.

Erin Johnson and her horse, Chick, were among those who signed up to search an area near the spot where human remains were found last week.

Volunteers are on the east side of the Swing Bridge all day & night until Monday to take anonymous tips on Heather Elvis' missing status. Many have stopped to help. Some have dropped off food and hot drinks for the people there. This is how a community becomes a close knit area. Terry and the Elvis Family have many friends helping. Thanks you all of you from the bottom of my heart.
