''At the beginning of October it was announced that it would be investigated whether female DNA material found in Dutroux's homes and vans belongs to Tanja. The result would come quickly.

The Public Prosecution Service in Maastricht has now announced, 2.5 months later, that a request for legal assistance has been made to Belgium. That request has not yet been responded to.

The Public Prosecution Service expects to receive a message from Belgium in the course of January.''

Still no result of DNA test Tanja:

"According to Sevérine Steuve, head of the DNA database in Belgium, it is not clear whether all unidentified DNA profiles from traces in Dutroux's homes and van are included in the database. That inventory has yet to take place. The competence for this lies with the Belgian judiciary."

Nog steeds geen uitslag DNA onderzoek Tanja

Since what year is the DNA database in Belgium active? Dutroux was already arrested in 1996.....That's "only" 27 years ago....Talking about competence?!

To answer my own question.

The NICC <The NICC (National Institute for Criminilastics and Criminology) is a federal scientific institution within the FPS Justice, which conducts independent scientific research at the request of the judicial authorities> will start on Tuesday 29 July with the international exchange of DNA data with the Netherlands.

All Belgian data obtained from DNA analyzes are centralized in two DNA databases, the “criminalistics” database and the “convicts” database, at the NICC. The “criminalistics” database contains more than 37,000 DNA profiles obtained from traces and suspects. The “convicts” database contains more than 29,000 DNA reference profiles of convicted persons. Most of these profiles will be automatically exchanged between all member states of the European Union in the future.

The first exchange of DNA data took place with the Netherlands on July 29 and resulted in more than 1500 matches. A large number of these similarities have been found between traces found at Belgian crime scenes and reference profiles of persons sampled in the Netherlands. Experts from the NICC will validate these agreements and submit them to the competent judicial authorities. It is clear that the results of this international exchange are promising and will have far-reaching consequences for judicial investigations and the clarification of criminal offenses in Belgium.

The international exchange of DNA data is an additional weapon in Belgium's fight against crime.

As of this week, the DNA database contains no less than 50,000 of those trace profiles. And that exactly 15 years after the database was set up in our country within the NICC, in 2002. An average of 320 traces are added every month.

What to think about this.......??

Makes me wonder if any files, evidence got "lost/misplaced" in the mean time..

The investigation wasn't throroughly and chaotic, sort to speak of.

A week after Marc Dutroux's arrest, the Dutch police alerted Belgium to Tanja Groen

A week after the arrest of Marc Dutroux in 1996, the public prosecutor's office in Neufchâteau was already alerted to a possible link with Tanja Groen (18) who had disappeared in Maastricht. It also received an extensive trace file from the Netherlands.

"Since it cannot be ruled out that Marc Dutroux may be to blame for the disappearance of Tanja Groen, I request that you pay attention to this in your investigation if possible." With those words, chief constable BMF Renckens of the Limburg-South regional police addressed the investigating judge Jean-Marc Connerotte in Neufchâteau on August 19, 1996, a week after the arrest of Marc Dutroux.

In the following months and years, the request led to a Dutch-Belgian exchange of information, with a summarizing 50-page official report on October 27, 1998, containing an extensive report on the disappearance of Tanja Groen, on August 31, 1993 after a student party in Maastricht. The file describes her fingerprints, X-rays of her teeth and hairs pulled from a comb in her bedroom...."

A DNA comparison from the Dutroux file has not yet been made.
''Six months after the Belgian commitment, it is still not clear whether the DNA of the Schagense Tanja Groen can also be compared with the unknown female DNA from the Dutroux file. It is still being investigated whether the DNA profiles have been preserved and, if so, where.''

A few days ago, I was reading the files on WL.There is a mention of a brown hair.
Dutroux had many connections in The Netherlands.

She was dressed in blue jeans, a pink T-shirt with the inscription "Tanja" and a dark blue Guerrier jacket.

It's mind blowing, that there still isnt any news/updates about about Tanja and the possibility of involvement of Dutroux:

Comparison dna from Dutroux case with missing Tanja Groen is upcoming

The unidentified female dna traces from the Dutroux file are at the Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI) for comparison with biological material from university student Tanja Groen, who disappeared in 1993.

According to the Public Prosecutor's Office (OM), it is not yet possible to say when there will be more clarity about a possible match between one of these unknown profiles and the dna profile of the then 18-year-old Schagen student who disappeared during the introduction week in Maastricht. "The traces have been handed over and are now at the NFI to be analysed. After the inventory, it has to be seen which investigations are still possible. All this takes time. At the moment, it is impossible to say when this process will be completed. Any further investigations will also take time," said a justice spokesperson.

More than 20 unknown dna traces were found in the homes and a van of Belgian serial killer Marc Dutroux; some female and some mixed. Thousands of hairs were also found.

The Netherlands already submitted a mutual legal assistance request to the Belgian prosecution service two years ago in order to compare the traces. Why this was not done earlier remains unclear. Neither the judiciary in Limburg nor in Liege would comment on that. No announcements are made about the further course of the comparison either. "It is up to the requesting party, in this case the Netherlands, to communicate about this," responsible advocate-general Jean-Baptiste Andries repeatedly informed.

Research by the cold case team Limburg shows that a possible role of Dutroux in Tanja Groen's disappearance cannot be excluded, it has only been superficially investigated.

As much as I would like to see Tanja's disappearance solved, I do not wish upon anyone to be a victim of Marc Dutroux and his wife.

In Schagen, North Holland, a square is named after Tanja Groen, who has been missing since 1993. There will also be a memorial on the square for her and crime reporter Peter R. de Vries, who paid a lot of attention to her disappearance.

The memorial will also include a QR code that allows visitors to read the reason for this sign. The memorial is currently being worked on, reports the municipality of Schagen.
Groen was born in June 1975 in Schagen, where she also grew up. After her eighteenth birthday she moved to Maastricht to study there. During the introduction week in 1993, she disappeared when she cycled to her room in the village of Gronsveld after a party at the Circumflex student association. Since then, every trace of her has been missing.
De Vries started a crowdfunding campaign in June 2021 to raise at least 1 million euros. That money would be available for one year to the person who provided the golden tip. De Vries started the collection on what would have been Groen's 46th birthday. At the beginning of July 2021, he was in Schagen to ask local entrepreneurs for help. He was shot a day later and died more than a week later

"DNA material found in Marc Dutroux's cars and homes has been brought to the Netherlands."

"Two years after the disappearance of Tanja Groen, Dutroux kidnapped Julie Lejeune and Mélissa Russo in Grâce-Hollogne. That is barely 35 kilometers from Maastricht. In terms of time and place they are not that far apart."

From my memory, I do believe Dutroux was in possession of several cars..
So just wanted to add this, with the source.
