Human Predators Stalk Haiti's Vulnerable Kids

Lambada, thanks for the link. I read the spanish version. Our guy's goose is cooked. He will be in U.S. custody before the *advertiser censored* crows. Stick a fork in him, he's done.

LOL. You are overly optimistic of the speed at which DR Courts work. He is still awaiting an extradition hearing by the Supreme Court. Last time he turned up late, so they waited a while, then put the case back to an unspecified date. Until we get a date, no-one knows how long it will take. Glad you read it in Spanish, truckbomb, because that was the only language it was written in ;).

Hate to say 'told ya' but :snail: LOL

Justicia dominicana pospone extradición de asesor de misioneros

Extradition hearing has been put back for the second time. This time because they first have to deal with his two plaints, namely first that his arrest was illegal & secondly a bail application. The Court has ruled the first plaint as inadmissable & fixed the hearing for the second for June 23rd. After this is out of the way, they can then fix the date for extradition hearing.

Baptists say God provided in Haiti jail

The title of this article pretty much sums up the content. Baptist Press spoke with the two youngest members on the trip, Nicole Lankford, 18, and Silas Thompson, 19, about their time in the Port-au-Prince jail.

And, I recently corresponded with MissIzzy and she says hello to all her WebSleuth friends. She continues to read, even though she is unable to participate.

'This is Jolie's second visit to the SOS Haiti Village. When last there in February she met with the 33 children who were brought to the village after the Haitian government intervened in the attempt to take these kids out of Haiti and to the Dominican Republic by Laura Silsby, Executive Director of New Life Children's Refuge and her missionary group that attempted to smuggle these kids of the country without permission from the government. This weekend, Jolie learned that all of the children have been reunited with their families and continue to receive assistance from SOS.' (emboldening mine)

The Court has ruled the first plaint as inadmissable & fixed the hearing for the second for June 23rd.

Bail application was rejected on June 23rd. Puello has now asked that extradition hearing be put back so that he can obtain proof from Canada that he had already been tried & sentenced in 2004 for the charges which US has against him. Supreme Court duly postponed case until July 28th.

Tribunal dominicano vuelve a aplazar extradición a EEUU de asesor

He also requested a new prosecutor, citing the discriminatory fashion in which Gisela Cueto had referred to his yarmulke during the June 2nd hearing.

Legal adviser in Haiti kidnap case extradited to U.S.
By the CNN Wire Staff
September 14, 2010

"Washington (CNN) -- A man who provided legal advice to 10 U.S. Baptists accused of kidnapping 33 Haitian children after January's earthquake has been extradited from the Dominican Republic to the United States on alien-smuggling charges, the U.S. Marshals Service said.

Jorge Torres-Puello, also known as Jorge Torres Orellana, was arrested March 18 in Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic. The Caribbean nation recently ordered his extradition, and Torres-Puello was escorted Monday to Vermont, where he faces charges."

"In addition to Vermont, Torres-Puello is wanted in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for probation violations for fraud, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency said. He also is wanted in Canada."

Thank you for that update, i.b. nora!! It's about time. There's a whole long line of people and governments waiting to get to Torres-Puello. This ought to be interesting.

And, a recent Baptist Press article about Silsby. Personally, I think she is mentally ill.

Article

I would have to agree, i.b.nora. I honestly think there's a great deal of delusional thought going on. When I traveled to Haiti, I found that few people I came across spoke English. Did she witness in Creole? She talks about the bibles she handed out but the literacy rate in Haiti is extremely low, 45%.

I saw a website the other day which compared Silsby's actions and her facial expressions to that of Bethany Storro of the faux acid attack. Very interesting concept.

Almost 20 years seems a little light to me.... Those victims were extremely brave to testify.

Six of his victims -- now young men -- were flown to Connecticut and detailed the abuse they suffered.

"He always told me, `Don't tell anybody about it. If you tell anybody about it, I will put you out on the street,"' one victim said through a Creole interpreter. He said Perlitz first abused him in 1998 and once sodomized him after plying him with rum.

Another victim said Perlitz started abusing him on his 14th birthday in 2004. He said he struggled with feelings of shame and thought about suicide, especially when he read the Bible.

"I am here today to tell the truth. Because of the truth I can find justice," he said. "He hurt us a lot."

from your link

Perlitz's lawyers asked for a sentence of about eight years, saying that Perlitz also helped many children.

I'm glad the "he's such a nice guy" didn't work on this judge - especially since it appears that Perlitz was doing what he did just to get access to vulnerable kids.
