OTTAWA Two 15-year-old girls accused of leading a prostitution ring could be tried as adults.
The unusual case announced by police on Monday, where the minors face charges of human trafficking, robbery, forcible confinement, sexual assault, assault, abduction and uttering threats, is believed to be the first of its kind in the country.

Toro-Williams was charged with compelling prostitution and promoting prostitution. Her daughter was 11 and 12 years old at the time, and engaged in sexual conduct for money, police said.
Captain Dan Zampelli said the abuse happened multiple times in 2007 and 2008. The girl is now 16

Police and prosecutors have arrested four alleged pimps as part of an ongoing investigation into a ring of human traffickers who preyed on abused and neglected children in foster care.
The men, police say, were part of an organized conspiracy to lure underage girls into prostitution. The four were charged Monday with conspiracy, racketeering and unlawful sexual activity with a minor.

The human trafficking investigation also involves a now-suspended child abuse investigator for the agency that oversees child welfare efforts in Florida. Jean LaCroix, a child protective investigator employed by the Department of Children & Families, was placed on paid administrative leave while police and prosecutors investigate allegations he repeatedly had sex with a teenaged foster child whose safety he was assigned to protect.

Is that all?? The sweep involved ~8500 LE officers and resulted in them finding 79 minors, that is a ratio of over a hundred LE to one minor recovered. That doesn't sound very efficient to me, in fact it suggests that the problem with child prostitution is vastly overstated. How hard can it be to find these kids, if the issue is as big as they claim it is? do they even look?

Sounds like some :sweep: house is in order.
I suspect that human trafficking is going to overtake drug trafficking because thugs like the easy way. jmo.

We need a blanket ban on ALL sex offenders from ALL Internet and smartphone usage, no matter the constitutionality. RSO's should have to pay for special cellphone or landline phones that have no texting capabilities and all numbers automatically recorded and provided to the registration officers of each RSO in real time.
If RSO's need to use the Internet for official reasons, then perhaps a station can be set up at the police or sheriff station where they can pay $10 an hour for usage of a limited, highly filtered Internet, with the understanding that every usage will be recorded.
I have reason to believe that such a ban would most probably be approved 5-4 by the Supreme Court as current membership lasts, despite lower court rulings. This ruling ALONE would significantly reduce any trafficking of children by RSO's near 100%.

I'm thrilled to see these recent arrests and rescued victims (minor or otherwise) of human trafficking. If it takes 100 cops to rescue 1 victim, I'm OK with my tax dollars being spent that way (reference to post #188). I look at is as cooperation between forces to crack down on these poor excuses for human beings and a message that it needs to stop.
I hope sentencing will catch up with the severity of the crime - seems judges may have assumed the victims did not mind being caught in this type of situation. Preposterous, but what else can it be?
