Bick, now 31, said human trafficking is a “huge” problem in the Toronto area.

“You could drive along the 401, for instance, and every single hotel that you pass, (has) sex work and/or trafficking happening (inside).”

Bick stressed it’s important for parents to pick up on the warning signs of sex trafficking, which include having a marked change in appearance, having hotel receipts or hotel paraphernalia (pens or pads of paper), using several texting apps, having lots of lingerie and having expensive fashion accessories.''

“It’s such a relational crime because they do something we call ‘love bombing’ where they take you out to dinner, they buy you nice things, tell you they love you. They give you everything that you need,” she said.''

''According to Statistics Canada, human trafficking is one of the fastest-growing crimes in the world.

It involves recruiting, transporting, transferring, receiving, holding, concealing or harbouring, or the exercise of control, direction, or influence over the movements of a person, in order to exploit or facilitate the exploitation of that person.

According to government statistics, 97 per cent of human trafficking victims are women and girls and 73 per cent of these victims are under the age of 25.

Meanwhile, Bruder said having conversations about healthy relationships, boundaries, consent, social media, and how the internet works is critical, especially during a global pandemic where a lot of these young people are spending time online, where predators are connecting with them the most.''

This week, the state attorney general’s office and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations arrested six people as part of an undercover human trafficking investigation in Oxford.

A local advocacy group in South Mississippi says it is great news for those battling the ongoing problem.

“It’s somebody’s kid. If I can just help one, it would make it all worthwhile," said Susie Harvill.

Harvill is part of the group Advocates for Freedom, a nonprofit dedicated to fighting what they say is the ongoing problem of human slavery all over the country, including in Mississippi.

The International Labour Organization estimates that there are 40.3 million victims of human trafficking globally.

“The more we know, the more we can stop this hideous crime," said Harvill. “It’s a crime against our children mostly and our young adults, so this is why we all have to fight together.”
Local advocacy groups pleased with recent human trafficking arrests

Eleven female adults and one female juvenile (16) responded to the undercover detectives and, upon arrival to the arranged location, were detained for further investigation.

As a result of the operation, Child Welfare Services and a juvenile advocate were on-site and assisted with the recovery of the juvenile. All of the detained females were offered resources. Some were willing to accept assistance. Four men were arrested for supervision of prostitution, one of which was in possession of a firearm at the time of his arrest. Another man was arrested for pimping and pandering. A woman was arrested for trafficking of a minor.

All of these cases are open and currently being investigated by the San Diego County Human Trafficking Task Force (HTTF), a cooperate effort involving: California Department of Justice Federal Bureau of Investigation; National City Police Department; San Diego County District Attorney’s Office; San Diego County Sheriff’s Department ; California Highway Patrol Homeland Security and Investigations San Diego City Attorney’s Office; San Diego County Probation Department; San Diego Police Department United States Attorney’s Office, Southern District of California.

Study: Human sex traffickers luring new victims online - The Sarnia Journal
''Local residents skeptical that human trafficking is a real problem might be surprised by the role the Internet plays in targeting vulnerable women and girls, says the lead researcher of a sweeping new report.''

''Many described how they were contacted online, showered with attention and promises of friendship, then convinced to post compromising photos of themselves.

“It’s a recruitment strategy and we believe it’s happening more during COVID, here and in every community,” Geurts said.

“It makes them so accessible. It’s very disturbing.”

''The online phenomenon of “sex camming” has grown during the pandemic since strip clubs were forced to shut down.

“There are an endless number of live sex sites, often with unwilling participants and traffickers making money from them. Some sites are even teaching young women how to sell adult content,” said Geurts.

Human sex trafficking differs from regular prostitution, in which sex workers participate voluntarily. Those who are trafficked are victims of forced sexual exploitation.''

''COVID-19 has driven much of the involuntary sex trade online, said Chantel Butterfield, project lead for the human trafficking support program at the Sexual Assault Survivors’ Centre (SASC).

“There’s a huge risk for young people coerced into posing online. Sex camming has replaced going to hotels,” she said. ''

Is this just the awareness thread or is it now the go-to thread to list recovery operations of missing children? We have several other threads set up by different states. I had been posting other cases in the GA thread including this one.

U.S. MARSHALS, TBI, DCS: Collaborative Operation Identifies, Locates Dozens of Missing Tennessee Children
A coordinated effort to identify and locate missing children across Tennessee has led to the recovery of 150 missing children by the United States Marshals Service, Tennessee Department of Children’s Services, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

Planning for the effort, named ‘Operation Volunteer Strong,’ began in the fall of 2020, with operation efforts launching on January 4th. After identifying 240 missing children statewide, TBI intelligence analysts compiled thorough information and potential leads on each, which designated law enforcement teams carefully pursued during two-week blitzes in each of Tennessee’s three grand regions.
