Jurors received the case shortly after noon Tuesday following final arguments by both the prosecution and defense...

In final arguments, assistant Iowa Attorney General Scott Brown admitted to jurors there is not a lot of physical evidence connecting Frederiksen to the crime. He specifically said no DNA, no clothing fibers or murder weapon was ever found. But Brown said what ties Frederiksen to the crime is motive, opportunity and several statements made to other people that implicated him. One of the statements, made to an FBI agent, was an admission that Frederiksen was sexually attracted to the girl...

But the defense argued the state did not connect the dots and another one-time suspect, Randy Patrie, might have also had the motive and opportunity.

Now with a conviction for the 2005 murder and sexual assault of a Floyd girl, the nearly 200 citizen volunteers and law enforcement officers who spent nearly a week searching for the child are processing their feelings about the events of 10 years ago...

The Rev. Paul Phillips of the Gospel Lighthouse Church in Floyd was one of the volunteers who helped comb a large area of Floyd County for six long days in the July summer heat and humidity looking for Evelyn.

"I think the whole community is in relief that it is over. It's taken a long time and there's the terrible tragedy of this young girl's death... I think people are relieved and they feel like justice has been served," Phillips said.

Judge to consider Casey Frederiksen's request for new trial

Defense attorney Aaron Hawbaker in his motion for a new trial argues Judge Rosenbladt should not have allowed jurors to hear about Frederiksen's child *advertiser censored*.

Conversely, Hawbaker also contends jurors should have heard statements made by Randy Patrie, another suspect in Evelyn's disappearance and death. Patrie was one of the last people to report seeing Evelyn alive.

In his motion, Hawbaker also suggests the guilty verdicts are contrary to law and notes prosecutors provided no physical evidence linking Frederiksen to the crimes. The end result was "amplifying the impact of the ... circumstantial evidence of child *advertiser censored* and prohibiting the defense from introducing the deception of Randy Patrie," Hawbaker wrote.

Frederiksen sentenced to two consecutive life terms

Casey Frederiksen will not get a new trial and must serve two consecutive life sentences for sexually abusing 5-year-old Evelyn Miller and then killing the little girl in July 2005.

First, though, Frederiksen must complete his federal prison sentence for possession of child *advertiser censored*.

"My granddaughter got justice after 10 years. What more can you say?" Linda Christie told members of the media.

Hamilton County jurors in March found Frederiksen, 36, guilty of first-degree murder and first-degree sexual abuse.
