There are no updates for Blaha.

I would say, "unbelievable," but we know that it is not.

At least the "parents" are in custody and charged with 1st Degree Murder. No D.P. in Iowa. Here is Iowa law re 1st Degree Murder:
---------------------------------------------------------

First-Degree Murder

First-degree murder is defined in many ways; one of the most common definitions is that a person willfully, deliberately, and with premeditation kills another person. Generally speaking, this means someone makes a plan to kill someone.
Under Iowa law, there is no certain amount of time that needs to accrue in regard to “plan making” or premeditation before one can be found guilty of first-degree murder. In other words, a person can make a plan in a matter of minutes or seconds to kill someone.
[...]
The penalty for first-degree murder in Iowa – a class A felony – is life in prison without the possibility of parole. [ italics mine)
-------------------------------------
More here:
This is one of those cases where I'll be hoping for private justice in prison.

Thoma - another continuance....

and still no updates on Blaha since the last entry on 2/28/23 that just gives the trial date.

Sad especially because every state has a safe haven law. They could’ve dropped the newborn at a local fire station or hospital and she would have been safe and loved and cared for by a family who couldn’t have their own children. No questions asked.

Selfish, drug-addled fools. RIP sweet baby girl

A judge agreed to move Thoma’s trial to Davenport, Iowa. Thoma’s defense says he would not be able to get a fair trial in Webster County. He is set to go before a jury on Aug. 8.

Meanwhile, Blaha’s trial is scheduled to start in September in Webster County.

Still no update on Blaha's court site just has her trial date.

Looks like Blaha "might" have had a hearing on 7/13/23 - but can not really tell from what the court site says. I shall move her there - just in case it was a hearing.

I shall have surgery (carotid artery stent put in) on Tuesday, July 25th - So I will need to post Tuesday the 25th, Wednesday the 26th & Thursday the 27th hearings - as I do not know "when" I shall be back home from the hospital. I am HOPING for Wednesday afternoon!! :)

Tuesday, July 25th:
*Motions Hearing (@ 9am ET) - IA - Kayleen Lee Blaha (newborn) allegedly drowned by parents to hide meth in her system, Nov. 16, 2022, Fort Dodge; baby's remain still missing. - *Brandon David Thoma (31/now 32) arrested (12/7/22), charged (12/8/22) & arraigned (1/3/23) with 1st degree murder & abuse of a corpse. Plead not guilty. $1, 050,000 Cash Bond.
Trial set to begin 8/8/23. Trial was moved from Webster County to Scott County.
Thoma placed the infant in a "plastic storage container, wrapping her in multiple layers of trash bags & then placing her inside a black backpack that he carried out of the apartment," he allegedly told police. When he returned home on Nov. 17, the backpack was allegedly empty. An Iowa father accepted legal culpability for the death of his newborn baby girl – who police say was drowned in a bathtub just moments after her birth in November of last year – in a plea deal this week.

Brandon D. Thoma, 31, was initially charged with one count of murder in the first degree in December 2022. On Wednesday, he pleaded guilty to lesser charges of child endangerment resulting in death, and abuse of a corpse, according to Des Moines-based CBS affiliate KCCI.
