Find Michael Vaughan - City of Fruitland Idaho

Today and this week, the ground search continues with emphasis on aerial and marine searches. In the effort to cover all possibilities, waterways are still being searched. There are many miles of waterways in the Fruitland area and searching them is a momentous task. Residents may see search crews along the banks of canals and rivers this week and at any given time as we work to leave no stone unturned in our search for Michael. You may also see drones or other specialized equipment assisting in the search.

Michael, by all accounts, was an active, inquisitive, child. While we have not eliminated any possibility, it is possible he may have wandered somewhere and he needs our help to find him. We continue to ask local residents and businesses to remaining vigilant and observant.

Update: The search for Michael Joseph Vaughan continues.
5-year-old Michael was last seen 14 days ago, July 27 at approx.. 6:30 p.m. in his neighborhood on Southwest 9th Street in Fruitland, Idaho.
To date we have received nearly 250 tips with each one being reviewed by an assigned investigator. Our Tipline is functioning very well and we are receiving your information. Thank you. Please send your tips directly to our Tipline as we are not able to monitor our Facebook.
Please note the new email Tipline: findmichael@fruitland.org.
Today we continued the methodical task of combing through the residential and business security camera video files for new leads. Search and rescue efforts are scheduled this week to include professional search and rescue personnel, canines, as well as aerial and marine searches of the area. The many miles of waterways present significant challenges for us and there is a lot of debris and vegetation overgrowth along the banks of the Snake River and it’s slews. It will be slow going along the river, but as you know, we’re leaving no stone unturned. We recently searched large French drain in the area of the Hidden Meadows Subdivision with the use of a high resolution, large drain camera.
The New Plymouth Public Works Department provided the camera and we would like to thank them for its use in our search for Michael. We continue to ask all residents to walk their fence lines and check any drainage that may run through your property.
There may be someone who knows something who has been unsure, perhaps even afraid to reach out. We want to listen. For those who would like their tips to remain anonymous, tips can be sent through Crime Stoppers of Southwest Idaho http://www.crimestoppersswidaho.org/.

“To my knowledge, I don’t think we’re ever experience anything like this before. It’s absolutely devastating," Terri Shurte, a resident of Payette and founder of the Treasure Valley Long Riders. I think that’s why the community is coming in such force to show the family support and we are here for them. We want to bring him home.”

Shurte said she was asked by a friend of Vaughan's family if the group would organize a fundraiser to support the family. The event called the “Bring ‘Monkey' Home Poker Run” references the little boy's nickname. It's set for August 21 in Caldwell.

“Right now, that family, I can’t imagine, this is their worst nightmare. This is any parent’s worst nightmare. I can’t imagine trying to work and try to carry on with a normal life while your child is missing," Shurte said. "This right here helps the parents focus on trying to find the child and we are just trying to ease their day too day expenses.”

Fruitland is an agricultural town, sandwiched between the Snake and Payette Rivers and crisscrossed by irrigation ditches and canals. Police said it's made the search more difficult.

According to authorities, the recent efforts included looking through the french drain near Hidden Meadows Subdivision.

Fruitland police ask residents to check their fence lines or any drainage near your property.

Additionally, the sheriff’s office has used its boat about five times in assisting with searching the river.

“This morning, we were out on the river, and went up to the Interstate 84 bridge on the Snake River and all the way down to Annex and back and didn’t see anything while out there,” he said.

"As of today, Monday, August 16, we have received nearly 290 tips from citizens. It is an intensive effort to follow up on all credible tips and leads and continue to review all video footage. However, investigative resources from the FBI, Idaho State Police, Boise Police Department, and the Fruitland Police Department remain on task. We have already followed and cleared a significant number of the tips that have come in.....

....We still believe there may be someone who may know something and has not yet spoken with one of our investigators. If this is you, and you’ve been unsure, perhaps even afraid to contact us, please know, we want to listen....

....Michael’s family remains fully cooperative, and we are dedicated to doing all we can to finding their little boy. We appreciate this community for being respectful of their privacy during this most difficult time.

The search for 5-year-old Michael Vaughan, an Idaho boy who was last seen in July, has entered its fourth week.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Michael was last seen on July 27 at around 6 p.m. in Fruitland, Idaho, in a residential area near an open field near his home on SW 9th Street. He was wearing a “Minecraft” T-shirt, boxer briefs, and blue flips flops. It remains unclear who, if anyone, was with him before he disappeared.

On Monday, the Fruitland Police Department took to Facebook and posted that the search for Michael is still very much active and ongoing.

“As of today, Monday, August 16, we have received nearly 290 tips from citizens. It is an intensive effort to follow up on all credible tips and leads and continue to review all video footage. However, investigative resources from the FBI, Idaho State Police, Boise Police Department, and the Fruitland Police Department remain on task.”

Cox is a close friend to the family and said she has been acting as a sounding board and support system for Michael's parents, Tyler Vaughan and Brandi Neal.

Cox described Michael as a curious and friendly boy. She said he wandered off onto the front yard to go over to a neighbors house when he went missing.

"They're incredibly brave, they're being incredibly strong," Cox said. "They're very supportive of each other and they're doing the best they can."

"The community has been fantastic," Cox said. "It's just overwhelming, the amount of support. It's just people wanting to do so much to get Monkey home."

"There's not even word to express the gratitude that they feel, the love that they feel from the community," Cox said. "It's just absolutely amazing."

"It's tireless efforts that they're putting out there and it's time away from their families," Cox said. "They're working so hard to get a solution and get Monkey home."

Cox said the family speaks to investigators daily.

The family said if people are looking to help, they encourage donating water or snacks to the search crews that are working day in and day out.

Cox asked people to continue to share Michael's picture on social media and by handing out flyers. She also asked people to only use pictures of Michael that have been shared by the family.

"They could not be any more thankful," Cox said.

"Tips have come from across the Treasure Valley and across the country," the police department said. "Our investigators continue to follow up and have spoken with people in multiple states as we work to find Michael."

In Thursday's update to the community, Fruitland PD said Idaho Mountain Search and Rescue along with a specialized canine recently search an area on the Oregon side of the Snake River.

Also, "investigators are asking more questions, scrutinizing more pieces of video, even re-interviewing some individuals in the effort to make sure no detail is missed."

The police department did say that the ground search for Vaughan is being scaled back as search crews focus in on specific areas as new information is collected.

"We remain hopeful that we will be able to, at some point, provide answers and bring Michael home," police said. "Until that day, we stand steadfast in our belief that we live and serve a caring and supportive community, that we’re surrounded by dedicated professionals lending their expertise to finding one small boy, and that those things combined will enable us to bring Michael home."

WEISER, Idaho — As the search for missing five-year-old Michael Vaughan continues, the outpour of support for his family does as well.

"It's all about the family and pulling together as a community. It's not just one community, it's the whole Treasure Valley," said Cheryl Farley

Bring Monkey Home Poker Ride.

"Our Family is broken right now. Monkey's sisters are missing their partner in crime, and his brother won't play Minecraft until Michael comes home. Monkey, your Mommy and Daddy miss you more than anything in this world. We need you home to be whole," the family wrote.

"Our hearts are with Michael's family. None of us have walked in their shoes. We only know this is a most difficult time, yet they continue to be cooperative and understanding," the department wrote.
