ID - Sage Aragon, 11, frozen to death, Blaine County, 25 Dec 2008

Incredible quote! :furious::furious::furious::furious::furious:

Quintana, the cousin who was with Aragon on Christmas Day, said his relative has been wrongfully accused.
"There's no way that he could have known what was going to happen," Quintana told the Times-News.

I think the mother and cousin should both be charged also. The mother knew the children were on foot at least five hours before she called LE. I've also got to wonder why this father instead of the mother has custody of the children. You can look at him and see he's been damaged by substance abuse. What's the story with the mom?

Timeline from from http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5hb-VFoUeYKIJdSPEqW5Jrm5Jc0owD95DJDUO0

Children start walking at 9:00 a.m.

Father and cousin unstuck 10:30-11:00 am

Mother calls father to say children haven't arrived 1:00-2:00 p.m.
Father and cousin set out to look for children.

LE notified at 7:00 pm

Kenneth Quintana, who told kmvt he was a passenger in the vehicle Robert Aragon was driving Christmas day, was arrested early Thursday morning by Jerome County authorities on a warrant from Lincoln County for 2nd degree murder.

Quintana was also arrested for investigation of two counts of drug possession - officers said they discovered him with marijuana and methamphetamine - and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

"The drug charges are from when they picked him up," Ursino said.

Weve got about four inches of ice and slush on the roads here in Idaho right now.
Id like to drag this guy behind my truck for a few miles and see what he thinks.

You would think that out of these three adults, one could have taken action. I think they should charge the mother, also. She knew for hours that her kids were out there. None of these people should ever be allowed to have custody of any kids ever again.

Which probably explains why no one (including mom) called LE. I would guess (yes, it's a guess) that all are involved in drugs and don't want LE in their lives and were willing to sacrifice the kids lives rather than contact LE.

It just breaks my heart to think of what that poor 11 year old girl went through, an 11 year old girl who only wanted to get to her mothers house for Christmas, she was probably excited about getting a gift and instead she froze to death!!! Her poor brother will forever now be haunted by what happened on Christmas day and with parents like this, can we really expect him to grow up well adjusted and to get the therapy he would need?

I am guessing the same thing.

I am confused as to what Mom knew...

Me, too. She says she called LE when she found out they were walking -- 1-2 pm, according to reports-- but LE says they were called at 7 pm.

Guess we'll hear more of the story later.

The mom called at 1-2 pm, and the cops weren't notified for 5-6 hours later....Wonder if the mom knew they were out in the cold or if there was a cover story...If she knew, she has some moral responsibility for not notifying police right away.

I think there are several adults who failed these children, including their mother. She said she knew a bad storm was coming on, yet she just sits there all those hours without them showing up? As a mother, imo, that makes no sense. I would have been beside myself with worry if they were even an hour late. Even if she didn't have a vehicle she surely has family or friends that does and could have tried to check the road in case they got stuck in the snow storm.

The father and the other guy were just plain stupid idiots. Some fathers, sometimes do not see the dangers, like some mothers do.

Ah ha!

A man who allegedly allowed his 11-year-old niece and 12-year-old nephew to attempt a 10-mile walk to their mother's house on a frigid Christmas Day was arrested on a murder warrant Thursday in connection with the hypothermia death of the little girl.
The warrant accuses Kenneth Quintana, 29, of second-degree murder and felony injury to a child, said Jerome County sheriff's Deputy David Ursino.
The children's father, Robert Aragon, 55, was arrested earlier this week and faces the same charges.

Quintana also faces drug charges. He was found with marijuana, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia when he was arrested, officers said

So I guess LE didn't find drugs or drug paraphernalia on the father since they haven't charged him like they did Quintana.

I thought Quintana was the father's cousin? The details of this seem a bit cloudy. Regardless, I think the mother and the uncle/cousin should be charged with some form of neglect also.

Dad was just convicted of a drug offense in February.

Thanks, twinkie.

I was talking about during this time period though.

They didn't charge the father also with having drugs like they did the cousin, did they?

TIA

Happy 2009!

HI Y'all,
You have done a great job on this thread, and I thought that since it is about Sage, I would try and re-focus some of the energy on this cute young girl. Granted, the adults made poor choices, but I would like to show you what a beautiful smile she had and Im sure she would light up any room. :) She looked so happy on the pic that I found of her and her brother.

The pain he must have felt when they turned to leave each other.....

May she Rest In Peace.......

I appreciate the reminder-they are lovely, precious, magical children. My heart HURTS for the brother who was left behind so to speak...

Thank you for the photo of Bear and Sage.

They looked like they were so close. I am sure they loved each other very much. They looked so happy in the photo.

Heartbreaking that she is gone now. I know she will never be forgotten.
