IL - A confession and a map to a murder victim? Chicago

I sent an email. I wouldn't know who to call or talk to.
It's all over Reddit also, so I'm guessing it's been called in too.

I saw this on PostSecret this morning, too. It's so straightforward that it's tempting to believe there's some truth behind it. OTOH, who would confess in this way?

I wonder how many similar "secrets" Frank Warren receives but doesn't publish? He says he protects contributers' anonymity, but since he published it he probably would have to turn over what ever evidence he has if there's an investigation.

This is not actually "in the news" but I didn't know where else to post it.

Assuming this is legit, does anyone recognize this area?

If the guy (I'm assuming it's a guy) is telling the truth, either there is a body there to be found, or it has already been found and is perhaps unidentified. If we could identify the location, we could forward the info to LE and have them check into it.

Thoughts?

Words of wisdom come at the very bottom of that page. Someone sent an email to Frank slamming him for everything from handling the postcard and disturbing evidence to failing to report it to LE.

marking my spot! this is so very near where I once lived. so many people are missing in or around that area.

I started looking for Illinois women who are missing and their significant others claimed the women dumped them.

So far I found

Brynn Null
http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/n/null_brynn.html

I think her husband is incarcerated, though... and I'm not sure a married person would use the term 'dumped', as I'd think that's more of a younger/dating term?

Since he has already been convicted of murdering her, it seems like he wouldn't have any need to send in an anonymous confession, either.

This is very near the University of Chicago campus. Any women missing from there around that time?

This is interesting. The husband was arrested in March 2008 and convicted of Brynn's murder, even though they haven't found Brynn. What is the date on that postcard, again?

Salem

I'm not smart enough to figure out how people are seeing a date on the post mark. However it's a "Forever Stamp" which google tells me became available in April 2007. So definitely after that.

Assuming people are right about 2008, I found a few Chicago women who went missing in that time frame.

Donna Harris, July 2008 https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/14163/12/

Yasmin Acree, Jan 2008 https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/2708/14/

Barbara Cantu, Feb 2007 https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/1248/18/

Redell Wimpie, 2007 https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/12722/17/

That's also the timeframe for Lisa Stebic and Stacey Petersen. Not sure how close Bolingbrooke is to this location, though.

Bolingbrook is not very close and would entail a long trip on the expressway as well as going into a very populated area. Unless Drew or CS was familiar with that area, there is no way they would go from the southwest burbs to the city to do that.

That's what I thought the map looked like, but it's so hard to tell when you aren't familiar with an area. Thanks!

i'm trying to see where the 2008 part is. there were a few missing persons this summer (i think all male though) around that area. Hyde is not a safe area, although it's the campus part, just go a few blocks either way and you're in very crime infested areas with tons of open air drug markets.

lake shore drive runs the entire city, and goes into indiana - although it's under another name here. one exit off every few miles is the beach for most areas - and the farther south you are - the more desolate the areas become.

I think on everyblock (the website) has listed the statistics and information about missing persons, all police reports and statistics - just enter the zip code and time frame.

sorry for the several posts but is it possible people are seeing a chicago zip code as the date stamp? 60608 is a chicago west side zip code.. it's near pilsen (which is being gentrified and not too far from hyde). a lot of students live in pilsen, and its right off the express way when you're coming in.

I can't make out any of the date or zip code or anything -- neither my computer nor my eyes are up to the task :p

Chicago Tribune story says the site has been searched, nothing found.

i could totally see this as a prank by an artist in the area or a social experiment by a student (or a whack a doodle). Im not putting too much weight into it - just shocked chicago pd didn't find a body in that area - period.

i used chrome and could see what everyone talking about. i blew the image up and moved away from the screen. it was mailed in 2008 and the zip IS 60608! and it is mailed from chicago, il.

They pretty much had to go out. It was so public they risked problems if they didn't go.

But they didn't have time to organize and conduct a search. So basically this means that someone (or two) went out and looked at the area. Maybe they even looked under a bush or two. Then they left. Probably went back to the station and cussed the internet.
