GUILTY IL - Four Hanson family members found murdered, Aurora, 28 Sept 2005

The Naperville man accused of killing four relatives was on his way to "confront'' his sole surviving sibling when he was arrested in central Wisconsin, authorities said Thursday, as quadruple murder suspect Eric Hanson appeared in a DuPage County courtroom for the first time.

Hanson was driving to his oldest sister's home in Minnesota when he was arrested near Portage, Wis., on Sept. 30 -- a day after his parents, sister and brother-in-law were found slain in Aurora, DuPage County prosecutors said.

Officials also confirmed during the 10-minute hearing that DNA tests showed blood found on a rubber glove in Eric Hanson's sport utility vehicle was his father's.

Standing feet away from his sole surviving sibling, Eric C. Hanson denied Monday killing four family members after he was discovered stealing at least $80,000 from them.

The 28-year-old Naperville man stared straight ahead at the judge during his arraignment without stealing a glance back at his older sister, Jennifer, seated in the court gallery with their grandmother and other relatives.

Dressed in orange jail garb and handcuffed, Hanson pleaded innocent to a 44-count indictment alleging first-degree murder, intimidation, armed robbery, aggravated kidnapping, home invasion, theft, mail fraud and identity theft.

He did not show a reaction when prosecutors told the judge they’ll likely seek a death sentence, but his attorneys said the former mortgage broker is frightened and confused. They instructed him not to look around the courtroom at family so as to not be accused of trying to intimidate or harass the potential witnesses.

“He’s scared,” said Elizabeth Reed, one of his public defenders. “He has no concept of what’s going on.”

Eric Hanson Eligible For Death Penalty In 2005 Murder Of Parents, Sister And Brother-In-Law

A verdict has been reached in trial of a man accused of killing four members of his family.

It didn't take a jury long to come rule Eric Hanson guilty on all charges. They include four counts of first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated kidnapping, two counts of armed robbery and two counts of identity theft.

Hanson, 31, was held accountable Wednesday by a jury for shooting to death his parents, Mary and Terrance Hanson, in their Naperville home where he lived with them. He then dumped their bodies at the Aurora home of his sister Kate Hanson Tsao and her husband, Jimmy Tsao, who he bludgeoned to death Sept. 29, 2005.

Thank God a jury with common sense! This guy took the bodies of his parents over to his sister's home where he then beat his sister and her husband to death! Why in the world would he haul his parents bodies over there? I wonder if he let his sister know that he had murdered their parents before he killed her? This is all so horrible for the remaining sister. She lost her whole family in a matter of hours. Thank God he didn't go after her too.

His attorney said that he was confused and didn't understand what was happening when he was in court getting charged! Did the attorney really believe that? Hope he gets the death penalty even though he will sit on death row for 20 years. Stealing $80,000 from his family...was it for drugs or just living a life well beyond his means?

The Illinois Supreme Court upheld the conviction and death sentence Thursday of a Naperville man who killed his parents, sister and her husband nearly five years ago...

Eric Hanson maintains his innocence. His remaining family members haven't visited him in prison, Tom said.

In his police report, Grandjean noted Anne wasn’t robbed. She also wasn’t raped. There didn’t seem to be any reason behind what had happened.

Police didn’t have any viable leads to hold onto.

Grandjean recently shared never-before-seen pictures of the grisly murder scene. He also uncovered photos of dozens of searchers who canvassed the Springwater Trail area for days that turned into weeks, and weeks that turned into years.
