Ireland Ireland - Trevor Deely, 22, Dublin, 8 Dec 2000

Detectives recently received information which alleges that Deely was shot before his body was dumped in west Dublin. A three-acre wooded site in the Chapelizod area has been sealed off to facilitate an extensive garda search. The information was received from an informant in recent months, who has alleged that a well-known Crumlin criminal is responsible for Trevor's murder and that Deely was killed after having an interaction with the Crumlin criminal on the morning of his disappearance.

Senior sources last night stressed that there were "certain doubts" in the statements they have received, while adding that the information had to be acted upon.

Obviously we can't name names here but it is pretty easy to work out which Dublin gangster allegedly killed TD based on some details in media reports.

Trevor Deely case is 'one of the most baffling' in my time with specialist Garda unit
Trevor's case was always considered to be one of the most baffling of all the disappearances we were tasked with examining.

Unlike in some of our other investigations, Trevor had not gone missing while walking on some remote country road in the dark of night, nor had he not been seen for a number of days.

Quite the contrary; his movements can be viewed on CCTV footage obtained by the investigating gardaí from business premises in the Baggot Street area of central Dublin. He can be clearly seen walking in the direction of Haddington Road.

However, despite intensive Garda investigations, no trace of Trevor was ever found after that date.

[h=1]Search continues for remains of Trevor Deely, missing 17 years[/h]
The garda search for the remains of Trevor Deely enters its fourth week in Chapelizod in Dublin tomorrow.

Trees and scrubland have been cleared across a three-acre site as part of a new phase of the operation which began early last month.

Gardaí have said they are prepared to continue searches for several more weeks as the investigation team continues to press ahead with the long-running cold case.

The brother of missing Trevor Deely has said he continues to hope that the mystery of the 22-year-old's disappearance will be solved.

Trevor was last seen on December 8, 2000 as he made his way home from his office Christmas party to his apartment in Ballsbridge, Dublin.

The last-known images of him, which were captured on CCTV, show him walking across Baggot Street Bridge towards Haddington Road at 4.14am.
---
A man dressed in black, who gardai believe also spoke to the then-22-year-old outside his place of work just minutes before, can be seen following him in the direction of Haddington Road.
---
Despite a €100,000 Crimestopper reward still available for credible information on Trevor, there have been no new credible leads.

Brother of missing Trevor Deely hopes public won't get sick of hearing about him

Today marks the 19th Anniversary of the Disappearance of Trevor Deely.

On the 7th December 2000, Trevor Deely, 22 years, attended his work Christmas party at the Hilton Hotel, Dublin 2. Afterwards Trevor Deely proceeded to Buck Whaley’s nightclub on Leeson Street which he left between 2:30am and 3:25am on the 8th December 2000. The weather on the night was extremely wet and there was a taxi strike in progress.

At 3.35am, on the 8th December 2000 ,Trevor called to his place of work at Bank of Ireland, Fitzwilliam Place, Dublin 2. CCTV footage of the rear entrance of the premises at 3:35am on the 8th December 2000 shows an unknown male conversing with Trevor at the back gate of BIAM (see image below). This male has never been identified. Trevor was last sighted on CCTV passing the Bank of Ireland ATM on Haddington Road at 4.14am. Approximately 30 seconds later a male was captured on CCTV walking in the same direction as Trevor.

Trevor Deely was described as 6'1", of slim build, with short red/brown hair, and of fair complexion. When last sighted he was wearing a mustard and brown checked shirt, beige/grey corduroy flared trousers, dark deck shoes with white stripes, a green padded jacket, carrying a large dark blue umbrella with white ACC Bank lettering.

Gardaí at Pearse Street Garda station are appealing for any information that could assist the Garda investigation into the disappearance of Trevor Deely. Even the smallest piece of information, which may seem insignificant, may assist the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to Pearse Street Garda Station on 01 6669000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or Crimestoppers on 1800 250025.

I know that it’s been said that he wasn’t completely drunk and was in control
of himself but on the CCTV he looks very drunk to me even when he comes back out of the gate after having some tea he’s stumbling from right to left and then when he’s walking with the umbrella he looks like he’s walking crooked too. The man who seems to be following him is also walking in a strange way almost like he is reaching for a weapon, yet if that man is the same one who chatted to him at the gate he cannot have said much that aroused Deely’s suspicion because Deely leaves the same way he came in despite knowing the man could still be hanging around. He does not seem concerned that this man might still be there to hassle him or whatever, and he also does not mention anything about this man to the coworker he just spent half an hour having tea with. Seems If he appeared unhinged or unsettling Deely would have told his colleague that this weird type of guy was hanging around outside the gate. Perhaps he just asked Trevor for the time or for a cigarette or whether he knew if any taxis were running yet etc. I’m not convinced the one who talks to him for about 15 seconds at the gate and the one behind him on the cctv are the same guy

I have a different view on this.

If you view the CCTV you can see Trevor nervously fumble with the gate after speaking to the man, we may never know what was said but it does look like he (Trevor) was in a rush to get away from him (the man).

He could have also viewed the building CCTV before he left and didn't see the man (men) so decided they had enough and left, which is why he decided to leave when he did. We don't know Trevor, so he may not have alerted his colleague to the strange man for fear of seeming daft or making a bigger deal out of something because he'd been drinking. Or, Trevor remaining for as long as he did could have meant he was scared, but he got to the point where there was no way he could remain in the building so decided to leave.

I don't see him swaying in the CCTV which I have included, I see him break normal stride when he is walking with the umbrella, but he could have been texting or on the phone and not paying full attention to his surroundings. I've noticed a lot of people misstep, sway, or completely change pace when texting or on phone calls.

I’ve changed my mind a bit after watching that CCTV a whole bunch of other times. As you say it does look like he his fumbling and trying to get the gate open as soon as he can to get away from the man, he seems kind of spooked by the guy. I think a lot of people are confused when it comes to the other men standing at the gate in the footage. I’ve seen tons of comments and discussion about who these other guys were etc, but my understanding was they were ruled out as his work colleagues and the only man not identified is the one who says something to him at the gate and appears to be the same one following him. Is that right?
