Joyce's nickname is Sneezie. She has a surgical scar on the back of her neck and scars on the lower right portion of her abdomen, her left buttock, and her thigh.
Joyce moved from New Mexico to Reseda, California in 1985. She planned to finish her senior year of high school in Reseda and live with her aunt and cousin. She was injured in an auto accident during the year and was required to wear a neck brace afterward.
Joyce began feeling well enough to search for a job that spring. She left her aunts apartment on April 29 carrying her birth certificate and several job applications. She met friends, and left them about noon. She went to go drop off her next application but has never been heard from again.
