LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A rural Kentucky school district has canceled classes for a second straight day as authorities search for a fugitive accused of shooting at law officers in two states.

Investigators say the career criminal who shot at law enforcement in Tennessee and Kentucky over the weekend is not alone.

Officials expanded the search statewide and the FBI joined in.

Tuesday morning new leads took investigators to Lebanon.

"Police officers were peaking through our front window yelling 'Police, open up!" said a neighbor who did not want to be identified. "We opened the door to the cops with guns out and hot."

Officers found no sign of Cook there, but Tuesday morning they revealed he may have help.

They say Cook may be 50 year-old Troy E. Wayne and troopers warn that Cook is as dangerous as they come.

Police believe they have new information on the whereabouts of a man who is accused of shooting an officer in Tennessee and then firing shots at a Kentucky State Patrol trooper.

FBI agents and KSP are looking specifically in Raywick and Lebanon in Marion County, Kentucky.

Reports say McCarty was found in a field.

WHITE HOUSE, TN (WSMV) - Two people have been arrested in connection with the search for a man accused of shooting an Algood police officer and firing shots at a Kentucky state trooper.

olice said around 8 p.m. Wednesday, U.S. Marshals pulled over a vehicle at a gas station in White House. The occupants of the vehicle opened fire on the marshal, who did not return fire.

Investigators initially said Floyd Ray Cook and his alleged accomplice, Troy Wayne, were in the vehicle, but later said they cannot confirm both men were in the car.

After opening fire, the vehicle sped off, hitting two other vehicles before crashing into a fence. The occupants of the vehicle then took off on foot.

Katie McCarty was taken into custody later Wednesday night. She is the girlfriend of Troy Wayne, who is believed to be Cook’s accomplice.

“This is not a joke, this is real,” said Lt. Bill Miller with the Tennessee Highway Patrol. “These men are extremely dangerous. They have no intention except to hurt someone, to get away, and they have proven that at least three times.”

McCarty was found thanks to infrared technology on helicopters flying over the area, Miller said. She was soaking wet and covered in mud.

McCarty has active warrants out of Arizona for conspiracy to commit murder, according to Miller.

Wayne was cought on Stoval drive. Miller said a witness saw him outside her house and called the police.

Miller said they got everyone who was in the vehicle and confirmed that they were the only two people in it.

So where is Cook?? It turns out he was never in that vehicle. This was the second morning I got up, expecting to hear the news that he had been captured. At least his associates are off the street now.

Neighbors say Cook was wearing different clothes since the last time he was seen including a camouflage jacket.

The man's wife called 911 and he got in his truck. Neighbors say that's when Cook ran back into the woods and tonight's search began.

The man says Cook tried to hide behind a tree when he came outside so he yelled at him to see what he wanted. Cook said, "I need a ride."

He's been killed.

After failing to comply with officers, state troopers and a US Marshal fired shots, killing Cook, Kentucky State Police said in a news release.
