Lawyer: $300,000 bond too much in 2015 Louisiana killing

MONROE, La. (AP) — A defense attorney says $300,000 bond is excessive for a man accused of killing a woman in Louisiana and tried twice — with both juries deadlocked — in a Mississippi woman’s burning death.

Bond for Quinton Tellis, who has pleaded not guilty in Louisiana to second-degree murder, should be reduced to $25,000, defense attorney M. Randall Donald said in court papers .

Tellis’ next court hearing is scheduled April 7, the News-Star reported Tuesday.

Pretty sure the 4/7 date did not happen.

@watergirl62 - can you access the court site? Any updated on the next court hearing maybe?
TIA! :)

Bumping up to see if anyone has any updates or can access the court site - see my post #111 for all info!

Quinton Tellis pre-trial hearing delayed until September

August 5, 2020

A pre-trial status hearing for Quinton Tellis was delayed until Sept. 15 at a July 29 hearing.

This is the third delay of the hearing since a bond reduction request was filed on Dec. 16.

According to court records, Tellis' attorney M. Randall Donald waived the defendant's presence at the hearing.

In the December filing, the defendant's attorney argued the current bond of $300,000 is excessive when considering the second-degree murder charge Tellis faces in Ouachita Parish and his inability to meet the bond.

“If defendant’s bond is reduced to a reasonable amount wherein he can be released from incarceration pending his hearing, he will be able to assist his attorney in the investigation and gathering of evidence for his defense, which can only occur if his bond is reduced to a reasonable amount which defendant would suggest as $25,000,” the motion reads.
