Tonette Thibodeaux of the Sunset police department confirms that an officer was shot but says she does not have any details.
The Advertiser of Lafayette reported that there was an apparent hostage situation at the J Mart convenience, with as many has eight people being held.
The stabbings didn't take place in the store. That occurred in a home. When LE showed up, the suspect shot the officer, and drove to a nearby Mini Mart. No one at the MM was injured.Strange that two victims in the store were stabbed but the officer was shot. I wonder if it was a robbery gone wrong? Maybe those were the employees inside? Very tragic.
This makes three officers in three weeks killed in South Louisiana.

A Louisiana police chief says a police officer responding to a domestic call was a cousin of the man accused of shooting him.
Police Chief Luis Padilla (puh-DEE-yuh) says Sunset Officer Henry Nelson, 51, was killed by Harrison Lee Riley Jr. on his last workday before a month's vacation. He'd planned to spend it with his teenage daughter, who lives out of town. Padilla says he doesn't know where she lives.
Padilla says Nelson was outgoing, friendly and always smiling.
Oh no. Cousins? Is that how the shooter got a hold of his gun?
