This makes me sad and it's not a good year to be a aging rockstar.

He will be remembered forever by his music, by his videos, and by his personality: He was a Super-Superstar!

The artist's publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure, said in a statement that he died at his Paisley Park home Thursday morning in Chanhassen, Minnesota.

Earlier reports had indicated that the music icon, full name Prince Rogers Nelson, was sick with the flu earlier this month and was even rushed to a hospital after his plane made an emergency landing.

Prince sold tens of millions of albums worldwide in a career that spanned several decades. The artist rose to superstar status with the release of his landmark album "Purple Rain." That album sold millions of copies and spent 24 consecutive weeks at the top of the Billboard 200, in part because of songs "When Doves Cry" and "Let's Go Crazy."

Some reports have indicated that Prince has so much unreleased music that he could issue an album per year for a century after his death.

The artist famously turned out albums in quick successions during the 1990s as a way of getting out of his contract with Warner Bros., with which he reportedly had differences over both music and money.

This is a truly sad day, as his music was the soundtrack for my high school years. I remember several of my classmates had their bedrooms painted lavender (with his posters were plastered upon them). :sigh:

I just recorded Purple Rain on DVR, but I'm too upset to watch. 57 is really young...

He will be missed...

I'm gutted. It's been an awful year for celebrity deaths, here in the UK several of our childhood faves have died this year, we're hurting :(

Strangely, this did the rounds on social media yesterday. You have to watch, I think Prince would approve.

RIP Prince

As a younger person, I remember driving out to Paisley Park more than a few times, I actually hated it, it was a long drive especially on the weekends after bar closing Would see George Clinton out there quite often, Many concerts at First Avenue, they were all word of mouth, you would start getting calls early in the afternoon with rumors and then would end up in lines around the block But saw Prince, Morris Day, some of the names are failing me. I never met Prince but use to tour with someone he produced and almost bounced Prince off stage when he ran past me in the Oakland Coliseum.

He is truly one of the most talented musicians EVER, did everything piano, guitar, every instrument even on his first album.

Cannot believe it, so sad and sudden.
Goodnight sweet Prince.

I can't find a version of Raspberry Beret or Little Red Corvette on YouTube that hasn't been blocked, unless it's a cover.

'This Can't Be Real': Fans, Celebrities Mourn Prince's Death

by Elizabeth Chuck and Daniella Silva

Tributes to Prince poured in Thursday after his publicist confirmed the prolific pop singer, whose superstardom spanned more than three decades, had died.

"He was someone who combined not just rock and roll and R&B and funk, but he combined the traditions of protest music with dance music," Joe Levy, contributing editor at Rolling Stone magazine and host of "Incoming" on Spotify, told NBC News. "He is someone whose creativity continued undiminished."

Fellow musicians were in disbelief that 57-year-old Prince, known for classics such as "Little Red Corvette" and "Purple Rain," had died...
