Police have said that Mr. Harkins got into a car with Mr. Trotto the night of Feb. 15, 1994, outside of Suneys Pub on Chandler Street. They have said they believe that is the same black 1985 Chevy Impala that Millbury police pulled over in the wee hours of Feb. 16, 1994, speeding north on Route 146.
That car was driven by Mr. Samia and Mr. Fredette was in the passenger seat. Police noted there was blood on the passenger and on the roof and passenger-side door of the car. Not knowing of Mr. Harkins disappearance or of Mr. Fredettes criminal record, they let the car go without searching the glove compartment or trunk.
Subsequently, Mr. Samia told police that he had junked the car, and police were never able to locate it. However, in 2005 Fire Department divers searched Curtis Pond and located a passenger-side front car door, a car roof and other car parts, police said. State police have identified those car parts as belonging to the car that Millbury police stopped Feb. 16, 1994, according to Lt. OConnor, one of the original investigators in the case.

Jury selection is scheduled to begin Thursday in Worcester Superior Court for the trial of Elias Samia, one of three men charged two years ago with the 1994 murder of Kevin Harkins...
Prosecutors contend he was lured out of Suney's that night and later shot to death while in a car with Mr. Samia and his two co-defendants, Matteo Trotto and John Fredette. The three were indicted on murder charges in the case in 2012.
Mr. Trotto, formerly of Worcester, and Mr. Fredette, of Saco, Maine, were convicted of first-degree murder in separate trials earlier this year. Both were sentenced to life imprisonment with no possibility of parole.
