(CNN) -- Casey Anthony's car reeked of what they deemed the unmistakable odor of a decomposing body, her father and and a tow company manager testified Friday in the Orlando woman's capital murder trial.

The odor was so powerful, George Anthony said he could not drive it home from the impound lot.

'Go Lightning,' Judge Perry says
José Baez asked for mistrial again; Judge Belvin Perry denied it.

A long day of testimony ended with some levity for the jurors in the Casey Anthony murder trial on Friday, when Judge Perry playfully teased them about the Tampa Bay Lightning playoff game before sending them home early enough to watch it.

The jury's early exit came after a mild controversy developed between the prosecution and Perry regarding evidence that the state said it thought would speak to the motive in the case.

The prosecution said the messages showed that Anthony considered her family — and daughter Caylee — to be a burden. Perry, however, dismissed the evidence as prejudicial, and did not seem at all convinced of the prosecution's argument.

Casey Anthony trial: 'Oh, my God; I'm such a good liar,' Casey told witness
Ex-boyfriend Ricardo Morales sold Casey photos for $4K.

Anthony's ex-boyfriend raised suspicions about the young woman's family life Thursday, testifying that she told him her brother had molested her and her father had hit her.

Tony Lazzaro told the judge and attorneys involved in the first-degree murder trial that Casey Anthony had confided that her brother Lee tried to "feel her up."

Melissa England, had dated Casey's friend. England said that over the Fourth of July weekend in 2008, she and her boyfriend went to a club and met Anthony there.

She spent time with Anthony over that weekend, including one point at which Anthony was talking on the phone. When Anthony hung up, she said, "Oh my God, I am such a good liar," England testified.

At another point that weekend, England described Anthony becoming very upset after talking on the phone with her brother. "I believe she was crying," she said. "She seemed very distraught."

Defense's sex-abuse claims may force Casey Anthony to testify
"Snip" By Bianca Prieto, Orlando Sentinel May 28, 2011

In its effort to provide an alternate theory on how Caylee Anthony died and explain why her mother never reported the child missing, the defense team may have created a scenario in which Casey Anthony must take the stand.

Years of alleged sexual abuse by family members forced Casey Anthony to keep secrets, tell lies and ultimately led her to cover up her daughter's accidental drowning in the backyard pool in June 2008, her attorney José Baez said during opening statements Tuesday.

Though the state has the burden of proving its case beyond a reasonable doubt, Miami-based criminal-defense attorney Daniel Lurvey said Baez now also has something to prove.

"When you come forward with something so strong, you take on an obligation to prove it," Lurvey said. "If you don't [prove it], you're really done. He's created a competing theory."

Lurvey described Baez's tactics during opening arguments as "aggressive" ones that created an "all-or-nothing" situation

Tow lot manager says smelled human decay in Casey Anthony's car

In an email response to questions from Reuters, George and Cindy Anthony's attorney said he didn't know what Casey had in mind concerning her parents supposedly leaving their home.

"No they were not planning on moving out, and I have no idea about Casey's plans other than her psychological report demonstrates she is deeply disturbed," Mark Lippman wrote to Reuters.

Casey Anthony: Did George Anthony help or hurt defense?
"Snip" — posted by halboedeker on May, 27 2011

WESH-Channel 2’s Bob Kealing said that defense attorney Baez had made “some good points in front of the jury asking George Anthony why he didn’t immediately call 911 as a former law enforcement officer if he smelled that smell of death coming from the trunk.”

Kealing later highlighted the strong response from the state. Prosectuor Jeff Ashton asked George Anthony, “If you took that little girl’s body and took it down and dumped it in the swamp, then there’d be no evidence in her car, would there?”

No, George Anthony replied. Kealing said that George Anthony “looked wrung out” after testifying.

By Amy Pavuk, Orlando Sentinel

7:32 a.m. EDT, May 28, 2011
It's unclear who will be called to testify today in Anthony's trial. Chief Judge Belvin Perry decided proceedings will be held half-days on Saturdays.

The trial will resume this morning at 9 as the state continues to build its case against the young mother accused of killing her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee Marie.

There will be no court on Monday because of the Memorial Day holiday.
