>Laplante continued, "Sheri said he told her she and the children were keeping him from his destiny...from what God wanted him to do."

Stephanie Jones was another friend who took the stand on Friday. She cried as she testified before the court. Jones showed a text message from Sheri that she had saved. The message was put on a screen for the jury to read. It was sent to Jones on December 27, 2008.

The message said:

Sheri - "Can you pray for me?"

Stephanie - "What's up?"

Sheri - "Chris wants a divorce. A couple days ago he said me & my kids are in the way of his job."<snipped>

Sauget said she picks them from a list of people who call her office. She contacts people at night and tells them to be at the courthouse the next morning. She said she gives priority to Monroe County residents, but leaves space for others. "I try to get the people that's never been in there at least for one day," she said.<snipped>

On Friday, Coleman's father, a church pastor in Chester, Ill., told a reporter that his son recently helped a fellow inmate at the Monroe County Jail become born again.

Coleman, a former Marine, built Meyer's security department and later became her bodyguard as she crisscrossed the globe. The position put him in the company of former St. Louis Rams quarterback Kurt Warner and popular televangelist Joel Osteen, according to testimony.<snipped>

Sgt. Wojtowicz, who testified that most of his work is related to child *advertiser censored* cases, said he copied and catalogued the contents of Coleman's computer and found seven threats emailed to Coleman in November 2008 and an eighth that was never sent.

Sgt. Wojtowicz said the emails originated from the email address "destroychris@gmail.com" and testified that the account was created on Coleman's laptop computer - provided by Joyce Meyer Ministries. <snipped>

Illinois State Police Forensic Scientist Michael Brown said he collected several DNA samples from the victims' fingernails and from the bedding after the May 2009 murder. On Sheri and Garett, they found another person's DNA on them, but it was consistent with that of family members. Brown said that would not be uncommon because they all lived together and had constant contact.

"Not a single genetic marker that I identified would have to have come from outside source," Brown said. <snipped>

"Religion in America has always had a quirky side — from the Salem witchcraft trials to the Heaven's Gate followers who committed suicide so they could shed their earthly shells and be transported to an alien spaceship trailing the comet Hale-Bopp.

I've been thinking about that sort of stuff during breaks at the Christopher Coleman murder trial in Waterloo. It is a trial infused with quirky religion."

"Friday morning at 10 a.m., the trial will move into the death penalty phase, with prosecutors and defense lawyers presenting evidence for and against his execution. If the jury rejects a death sentence, the only alternative would be life in prison without parole."

The jury that convicted a Columbia, Illinois man of murdering his wife and their two children, will meet for "phase two" of the tria at 10:00 a.m. Friday. During this phase, they will determine if Chris Coleman, 34, is eligible for the death penalty under Illinois law.

I thought Illinois did away with the DP quite recently? Maybe that doesn't apply if the crime was committed before that?

The state attorney general’s lawsuit alleges Decicco only used $2,550 of the charity’s funds on violence prevention efforts. It is believed Decicco spent the remaining money on other expenses, but the attorney general’s office did not go into further detail.
