Amanda Knox: European court orders Italy to pay damages

The European court of human rights has ordered Italy to pay Amanda Knox €18,400 for police failures to provide her access to a lawyer and a translator during questioning over the 2007 killing of her British flatmate Meredith Kercher in Perugia.

The ruling opens the way for Knox’s lawyers to challenge her last remaining conviction, for malicious accusation, in the Italian courts.

The court, in Strasbourg, declared that Italy must pay Knox €10,400 in damages plus €8,000 to cover costs and expenses.

As well as concluding authorities had twice violated her right to a fair trial, the ECHR also found they had failed to investigate her complaints she had been subjected to degrading treatment, including being slapped on the head and deprived of sleep. The court did not, however, uphold her complaint of ill-treatment.

Amanda Knox plays murder suspect at Victorian-themed party | Daily Mail Online

Amanda Knox was accused of murder once again as she posed in period dress for a Victorian-themed mystery party.

The 31-year-old, whose real-life murder mystery gripped the world when she was accused of killing British student Meredith Kercher in Italy in 2007, played a British countess accused of stabbing the owner of a priceless artwork.

Joking that she had been accused of murder once again, she said her character had been exonerated in four hours, adding: 'Better than four years'.

Ms Knox, from Seattle, Washington, spent four years in an Italian prison after she and her ex-boyfriend were jailed for the murder, but she was found not guilty in 2011.

Posting the pictures on Instagram, she said: 'Victorian London: A priceless painting goes missing and the owner is found both poisoned and stabbed.

'And would you believe it, I, the Countess of Lovelace, am accused. Also acquitted, all in 4 hours. Better than 4 years.'

According to Altieri, one of the boys from the first floor, Knox heard from him the details which he had heard from carabinieri talking outside the villa. Interesting, Knox and Sollecito were both in the car on their way to the police with Altieri when he told this.

How come both her and Sollecito didn't tell this? Straight forward as it comes this recounting by Altieri.

For the 21-year-old American student is facing life behind bars in an Italian jail after the brutal sex-murder five weeks ago of British student Meredith Kercher, who had been allocated a room in the same apartment as Knox during a gap year exchange in Perugia. Four months ago in Seattle, Knox was fined $269 (£135) at the Municipal Court after the incident - Crime No: 071830624 - and warned that any repeat of her behaviour would lead to much stiffer punishment. {6}
