Prosecutors in the George Zimmerman second-degree murder case on Wednesday released the names of six "secret" witnesses, all of them neighbors who lived near where Trayvon Martin was fatally shot.

The newly disclosed list does not include new witnesses, just several whose identities earlier were kept secret by prosecutors, something both sides agreed would help protect their privacy.

But Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester Jr. ordered the release of the names of witnesses who had previously talked publicly to reporters. Those six were identified Wednesday...........

Zimmerman's wife, Shellie, is to be arraigned Tuesday at the Seminole County criminal courts building on a perjury charge. That means she'll enter a plea.

Her brother-in-law, Robert Zimmerman, said three weeks ago that she has an attorney, but he would not name that person, and as of noon-time Tuesday
[7/24], court records showed that no one has formally filed notice that he or she is serving as Shellie Zimmerman's lawyer.

The wife of Trayvon Martin's shooter has entered a written plea of not guilty on a perjury charge........Her attorney Kelly Sims entered the plea Friday and also waived Zimmerman's right to appear in court.
 
SANFORD — The judge in the George Zimmerman case will hold a Stand Your Ground hearing Wednesday in the case of an Oviedo woman who says she shot her estranged husband while he was raping her.

Anita Smithey is charged with second-degree murder for shooting Robert Cline III.

Oviedo police found his body on her bedroom floor May 4, 2010. Smithey was screaming, crying, shaking and bleeding from a knife wound to the side, one that police say she admitted inflicting on herself after she killed the 41-year-old Cline.

Smithey, 43, and her estranged husband had been separated for three months, according to a police report, but he had come to her house that night for what had become a Monday ritual: sex on the night her children were visiting their father.

The case is more than 2 years old and has drawn little attention, but now that it involves the judge handling the Zimmerman case — Kenneth Lester Jr. — that will likely change.

George Zimmerman wants to change the terms of his probation that require him to live in Seminole County while he awaits trial.

His lawyer, Mark O'Mara, said one main concern is money. He said Seminole County is the most dangerous place for Zimmerman to live, and the cost of round-the-clock security is draining the defense fund.

"We're preparing to file a motion to modify George's bond to allow him to move out of Seminole County," said O'Mara.

ORLANDO, Florida — A Florida judge on Wednesday rejected a motion asking him to step down from the murder trial of George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch captain who killed unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin, ruling the defense request was "legally insufficient."

Zimmerman's lawyer Mark O'Mara, in a motion filed July 13 asking the judge to step down, accused Judge Kenneth Lester of bias, citing what he called "gratuitous" and "disparaging remarks" Lester made in a July 5 ruling raising Zimmerman's bond from $150,000 to $1 million.

The ruling followed a bond hearing held after prosecutors accused Zimmerman and his wife Shellie, who has been charged with perjury, of lying to the court about their finances...

He is joined on the Internet by Dave Turner, an Illinois man who had his sons yell in the dark from a distance of 30 feet to see whether he could tell which one cried for help.

Both men are often guided by the work of “Tchoupi,” an engineer with a Ph.D. in physics who has spent countless hours making maps, analyzing witness statements and fleeting headlight patterns in surveillance videos to compute George Zimmerman’s moves the night he killed Trayvon.

The three are among a growing group of people on the Internet so fascinated by the mystery of the killing that captivated the nation that they are out to crack the case themselves. They listen to jailhouse calls, pore over witness statements, study evidentiary documents and measure walking speeds.

Special Prosecutor Angela Corey's office on Thursday released a slew of evidence in the George Zimmerman second-degree murder case, including dozens of pages of records the state did not intend to make public.

The new documents included a grainy photo depicting 17-year-old Trayvon Martin's body, George Zimmerman's academic records — from high school and Seminole State College — and his application for the Seminole County sheriff's Citizens Law Enforcement Academy.

The Orlando Sentinel is not publishing the photo of the teen's body after he was shot by Zimmerman in Sanford on Feb. 26.

Among the new information revealed: Authorities found the teen's blood on the bag of Skittles he had in his pocket.

Prosecutors trying George Zimmerman on a second-degree murder charge accidentally released protected evidence Thursday, sending journalists and bloggers around the nation private academic transcripts showing that the neighborhood watch volunteer who aspired to become a judge did poorly on the classes in his major, criminal justice.

The prosecution also accidentally released a photo of Trayvon Martin’s body, which both sides in the case had agreed to keep from public view. The corpse photo was a grainy cellphone picture taken in the dark by one of the people who lives near the shooting scene. It was posted Thursday on blogs that subscribe to the Duval County State Attorney’s media email list.

Prosecutors recalled an email which contained Zimmerman’s academic records from his Virginia high school and Seminole State College, in Sanford, where he studied criminal justice, but many media outlets had already reviewed the material. The records show Zimmerman’s mediocre grades had led to academic probation.

The attorney for George Zimmerman says he is filing his appeal this week of the trial judge's recent ruling not to recuse himself from the case.

Mark O'Mara, who is representing Zimmerman on second-degree murder for the fatal February shooting of Trayvon Martin, said Monday he expects the Fifth District Court of Appeals to act quickly, but said it could take several weeks for a ruling.
