MI - Aiyana Jones, 7, fatally shot in Detroit PD raid, 16 May 2010 * Settlement Reached* *Mistrial*

I had forgotten that there was a conflict in statements regarding where the shot was fired from.

This article published the week after the shooting states that the incident was caught on video and shows the Officer was on the porch when he fired the fatal shot, not inside the home accidentally firing during a struggle with the grandmother.

Will that footage be allowed as evidence?

officer's next trial is scheduled for July 25th.....and an A&E producer has been charged with perjury -I wasn't aware of that.

"According to the indictment, Howard knowingly made false statements under oath in testifying “that she did not show third parties video recordings that showed the subject of the investigation and/or that she did not provide third parties with copies of said video recordings,” the Free Press reported."

Not sure why they started today and are recessing until Monday. Unless they are like AZ court and are dark on Friday. IDK

Hey there Jewels! I've been following the Judge Hunter trial so I know very little about this case.

A judge has turned down a request to stop the trial of a Detroit police officer who killed a girl during a raid in 2010.

A defense attorney argued that Joseph Weekley's right to a fair trial was spoiled when the victim's grandmother lashed out at the officer while testifying last week.

Last Wednesday Mertilla Jones broke down into an emotional outburst as she described the shooting of 7-year-old Aiyana Stanley-Jones. Jones looked at Officer Joseph Weekley in court and said, “You killed my grandbaby.”

The outburst continued until the judge asked for her to leave the stand. She was escorted out of the courtroom as she continued to shout at Weekley.

The Michigan Appeals Court on Friday suspended the trial of Detroit Police Officer Joseph Weekley, accused in the death of a 7-year-old girl, so it can review a move by the judge to throw out the most serious charge against him.

Wayne County Circuit Judge Cynthia Gray-Hathaway's decision to toss an involuntary manslaughter charge — a surprising development in the three-week trial — prompted prosecutors to file an emergency appeal to the state court.

#JosephWeekley likely won't go to prison on his misdemeanor charge of careless discharge of a weapon causing death which is the 2nd count

It appears doubtful that an involuntary manslaughter charge will be reinstated against a Detroit Police officer in the shooting of a 7-year-old Detroit girl during a police raid.

The Michigan Court of Appeals ruled twice Monday that Wayne County Circuit Judge Cynthia Gray Hathaway's decision to dismiss the felony charge against Joseph Weekley will stand.

Wayne County jurors are indicating this afternoon that they are deadlocked in deciding the fate of Detroit police officer Joseph Weekley, who is on trial in the shooting death of a 7-year old girl...

On Wednesday, the jury sent out a note saying they couldn't reach a verdict and Hathaway urged jurors to continue talking with each other to see if they could reach a decision.

No notes indicating they were deadlocked came from the jury Thursday, but jurors did ask to see evidence including video taken during the police raid. The same video was requested on Wednesday.

Pretrial date set for Nov 21 in #JosephWeekley. The State needs to just stop. They will never get a verdict on the misdemeanor charge.
