"This is absurd, it's unfair," said Ciera Milton, Zion's mother. "And it's not just."

Milton is still reeling over the release of Jaylin Brazier likely the last person to see her daughter alive. Brazier was released from prison Tuesday – nine months after he was sentenced for lying to investigators about Zion Foster’s disappearance.

"Why is this man free?" said Milton. "What? (Like) 'I can admit to this and still be let free.'"

Chief James White says their investigation is not over yet.

"That case is still wide open," White said. "We think we've got a strong suspect in that case. Our detectives are doing constitutionally everything they can to talk to him, investigate him, visit with him, to make sure we get what we need to charge that case the way it needs to be charged."

During Tuesday morning's hearing, Detroit Police Officer John Criswell was the first to testify. He said that he spoke with Braizler on January 6, 2022, two days after Zion was last seen. Criswell testified while bodycam video was played, showing him and his now-former partner talking to Braizler inside of his home on Greenfield, where Zion's phone was last pinged.

During that exchange, Brazier told police that he had cameras that "show she was never here".

She (Zion's mom) said when Brazier showed her his footage there were gaps in his recordings. She filled in those gaps from a Ring doorbell camera that showed someone believed to be Brazier picking up Zion at her house in Eastpointe the night of her disappearance and bringing her back to his house.

Detroit — In the last text Zion Foster sent her boyfriend, she said she was on her way home from her cousin's house.

Twenty minutes later, her phone had been shut off; it went straight to voicemail when her boyfriend called her.

Zion was never seen again.

She was at the home of her cousin, Jaylin Brazier, before she went missing, she had told her boyfriend and mother, though Brazier denied she was ever there. Police and prosecutors believe Brazier dumped Zion's body in a dumpster in Detroit. Her body has never been found, despite hours of searching a Macomb County landfill, where police thought her body might be...

Detroit — Jaylin Brazier told detectives he "freaked out" after his 17-year-old cousin Zion Foster died of a suspected overdose in his Detroit home last year, so he stuffed her body into the trunk of his Acura, drove to Highland Park and "put her in the trash can."

A video of Brazier's January 19, 2022, confession was played Wednesday during the second day of testimony in his preliminary examination in 36th District Court. After hearing the evidence, Judge Kenneth King bound the defendant over for trial on second-degree murder charges, ruling that Brazier had tried to cover his tracks and had changed his story multiple times.

"This court can look at what actions took place before, during and after this occasion," King said. "The court finds evidence that this defendant did with intent to kill and do great bodily harm ... cause the death of Zion Foster."...

He sat in court emotionless during the hearing as details emerged about Zion’s bank accounts and text messages — prosecutors say — Brazier shared with his girlfriend.

One message, which had a link to a Google search questioning if Brazier could be charged for murder if a body isn’t discovered.

“I wasn’t even supposed to be able to have kids. This is my first born. You know? So, this is an immense blessing. When I was a little girl I prayed over my babies before I had them,” Foster’s mother Cierra Milton said. “You literally snatched my baby away and then tried to erase her.”

Trial is being live streamed on YouTube. Zion’s mom is first witness.

ETA:
I can’t listen to the Crown attorney saying “umm” or “so” every third word.
Too bad, I really wanted to watch/listen.

Back to watching the Daybell trial I guess.

Detroit — Zion Foster made a mistake on the last night of her life, a prosecutor said Tuesday, by placing her trust in her favorite step-cousin.

That cousin, 25-year-old Jaylin Brazier, is charged with killing 17-year-old Zion and disposing of the Eastpointe teen's body in a dumpster in Highland Park, sparking a months long, unsuccessful search of a Macomb County landfill. His jury trial began Monday in Wayne County Circuit Court.

"Zion is gone forever; her body was never even found," Wayne County Assistant Prosecutor Ryan Elsey said during his opening statement. "Zion left the defendant's house that night in the trunk of his car and he threw her body away in a dumpster like she was a piece of garbage."...
