Police make arrest in connection to death of Rogers High School student​

18-year-old was arrested in Golden Valley on Wednesday, Nov. 16 in connection to the shooting death of high school student Yaseen Johnson.
Two other men, a 19-year-old from Plymouth and a 19-year-old from New Hope, were identified by police as "people of interest" in connection to Johnson's death.

Police are asking for the public's help in locating two additional suspects:

Police arrest 2 suspects in murder of Yaseen Johnson, 17; 1 still at large

Plymouth police are looking for help in finding a suspects connected to that city's latest homicide, after two other suspects were taken into custody.

Hans Madave, 19, remains wanted in connection with the shooting death of 17-year-old Yaseen Johnson.

Police don't know if these teens all knew each other, but Fadden says the remaining suspect must be found to keep the public safe.

The Medical Examiner said Yaseen died of multiple gunshot wounds. Eighteen-year-old Luke Davin Williams was arrested on Wednesday in Golden Valley. Nineteen-year-old Augustus ‘AJ’ Matthew Sirleaf Junior of Plymouth turned himself in, but Hopkins Police Chief Erik Fadden said 19-year-old Hans Madave of New Hope is still on the loose. Investigators don’t know the relationship between the three and the victim.

Charges: Planned robbery led to homicide of 17-year-old in Plymouth - Bring Me The News

A 17-year-old Albertville boy had intended to purchase a pair of designer sneakers when he was fatally shot in a premeditated robbery in Plymouth last Monday, according to new charges filed in Hennepin County.

Augustus "A.J." Matthew Sirleaf Jr., 19, of Plymouth is charged in Hennepin County District Court with two counts of second-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Rogers High School student Yaseen Johnson.

An 18-year-old Golden Valley man arrested in connection with the murder has since been released without charges, but remains under investigation, the Star Tribune reports. Hans Madave, 19, of New Hope, remains at-large.

According to criminal charges filed Monday, the driver of the vehicle told investigators they'd come to the parking lot to buy shoes. When they arrived, Sirleaf and another man entered the vehicle.

The witness told investigators he saw Johnson flinch and heard ringing. When he looked over, he saw blood and ran from the vehicle.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office determined Johnson died of one gunshot wound to the chest and two gunshot wounds to the head.

didn't know what the details were at all until this came out. sounds like the victim and his friend went to buy shoes from the suspect and it was a set up. the victim's friend is so lucky that he didn't die too. Sounds like after the friend left the suspect shot him 2 more times.

Augustus Sirleaf, 19, charged in teen's shooting death

Sirleaf is in custody at Hennepin County Jail. He made his first court appearance Tuesday afternoon where his bail was set at $1 million without conditions and $250,000 with conditions.

If convicted, both murder charges have a maximum penalty of 40 years in prison.

So I'm assuming he brought cash and it sounds like the shoes were the ones he wanted and suspects had the plan of robbery according to Fox9 news. Very sad

The 19-year-old suspect turned himself in Monday evening.

Police in Plymouth have made a third arrest in connection to a shooting that killed a 17-year-old boy during a premeditated robbery in November.

According to the Plymouth Police Department, 19-year-old Hans Madave of, New Hope, turned himself in on Monday and is being held on probable cause murder charges in the killing of Yaseen Johnson.

Hans Madave, 19, had been on the run for months following the fatal shooting of Yaseen Johnson on Nov. 14 before he turned himself in two months later

His alleged co-conspirator, Augustus Sirleaf, was charged a little over a week after the shooting.

According to charging documents, Sirleaf recruited Madave to rob two people during a shoe sale. They met the buyers at a parking lot and got into the back of their car. Johnson was in the passenger seat, while another man was in the driver's seat.

Madave's next scheduled court appearance is in November.

A 20-year-old man from Plymouth pleaded guilty for his role in the shooting death of a 17-year-old boy last year.

Augustus Sirleaf submitted a last-minute plea agreement Monday, pleading guilty to second-degree murder for shooting Yaseen Johnson on Nov. 14, 2022.

At one point, Johnson gave the suspects money for the shoes after deciding he liked them, but the suspects asked for one of the shoes back. When Johnson refused, Sirleaf took out a gun and shot him several times.

Hans Madave, 19, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for his role in the shooting last week. He had been on the run following the shooting before he turned himself in two months later.

Sirleaf is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 2. Madave's sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 12.

Man gets 23 years for killing Rogers High School student

A Plymouth man was sentenced to 23 years in prison after pleading guilty to murder in the 2022 shooting death of a 17-year-old Rogers High School student.

On Tuesday, a judge sentenced Augustus Sirleaf to 276 months in prison with credit for 411 days served. Additionally, Sirleaf was ordered to pay $8,500 in restitution to the family of 17-year-old Yaseen Johnson, who he shot and killed during a botched robbery.

Now, Madave has withdrawn his guilty plea against the advice of his attorney, insisting on his innocence.

In court on Monday, Madave claimed the shooting death was not a foreseeable consequence of the robbery.

Madave had been on the run for months following the shooting before he turned himself in two months later.

His next court appearance is scheduled for May 1.

Hans Madave, 20, pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder Wednesday and had another count of second-degree murder dropped, according to court records.

He was immediately sentenced to 160 months in prison, with credit for 472 days served.

In May 2023, Madave originally pleaded not guilty in the fatal shooting of Yaseen Johnson. He changed his plea to guilty in November, then withdrew his guilty plea in March, against the advice of his attorney.

In January, Madave's alleged co-conspirator, Augustus Sirleaf, was sentenced to 23 years in prison for Johnson's death.
