Case of missing Cape Girardeau girl reclassified to kidnapping

A Cape Girardeau missing person case area law enforcement began investigating again around five years ago was reclassified last week by the FBI as a kidnapping.
The case of Elizabeth Ann Gill, who disappeared from the front yard of her home on Lorimier Street in 1963, is officially an active investigation, Rebecca Wu, public affairs specialist for the FBI St. Louis Division, said Wednesday.

"We are conducting the investigation now as if she was abducted," Wu said. "We'll actively work through the case, go through leads, and see what happens now."

Elizabeth's case is active! Prayers she comes home quickly!

The story on that the FBI has reclassified this case as a kidnapping and re-opening the investigation was in an Associated Press story that ran in this morning's Cincinnati Enquirer. The St. Louis office of the FBI would not say if there was any new evidence. One can only hope that some new information has come out that will help solve this 45-year old matter.

Come home soon Elizabeth.

Girl's disappearance gets renewed interest 45 years later

Almost half a century ago, a little girl in southeast Missouri went missing. Today, her sister in Arlington Heights is amazed how the Internet has rocketed the case back into the spotlight.

[snip]

The FBI in August reclassified the case as an abduction and said it would investigate. In 1965, it didn't get involved in missing person cases unless there was evidence of a kidnapping, such as a ransom note.

For years, Beth's family did not talk much publicly, thinking it would not do any good, said Stowick. But about five years ago they learned the case had been mentioned on a website.

Eventually another website helped friends trace one of the peddlers' cars, and authorities have been able to track one of the people, said Stowick.

Camera crews from "The Today Show," airing on NBC weekday mornings, and "Inside Edition," a syndicated 30-minute news program, have been in Cape Girardeau this week shooting interviews with Gill's mother, siblings and local law enforcement.
