Police announce huge breakthrough in Moore Park rapist case as man, 60 charged with alleged sexual assaults in 1990s

Police have announced a huge breakthrough in their investigation into the alleged Moore Park rapist case dating back to the 1990s.

Police have announced a huge breakthrough in the alleged Moore Park rapist case, charging a 60-year-old man over a number of alleged historic sexual assaults.
At least ten women were allegedly sexually assaulted in Moore Park and the inner-west of Sydney between the years of 1991 and 1993, with the offender being dubbed the ‘Moore Park Rapist’ or ‘Night Stalker’ in media reports.

The man was arrested by Sex Crime Squad detectives at Sydney International Airport about 9am on Thursday.
His arrest came as a result of a new initiative which used DNA and fingerprint technologies to review historical sexual assaults.

Following extensive inquiries using these new technologies, strike force detectives arrested the 60-year-old man.

He was taken to Mascot Police Station, where he was charged with 33 offences against eight of the ten alleged victims.

This included 16 counts of aggravated sexual assault, eight counts of indecent assault, three counts of assault causing actual bodily harm, two counts of detaining for advantage, two counts of robbery with an offensive weapon, and two counts of attempted sexual assault.

He was refused bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Friday.
