The man charged with murder in the death of his girlfriend, missing teacher Bianca Tanner, will appear before a judge for an arraignment Monday...

Angelo Smith Jr. was taken into custody wearing his Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity shirt last Thursday. This action linked Smith to thousands of members of Greek organizations all across the country. Some said it gave fraternities as a whole a black eye.

“It kind of gave a negative connotation and stereotype of what Greek organizations are about and it was not a good look for our community,” said Ty Turner with Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He said that prompted his organization to do something positive. They’re planning to hold a rally this week in the hopes of bringing awareness to domestic violence within the community.

I'm surprised the judge doesn't just place him under house arrest. That judge should be reviewed.

It's been more than two months since the body of a Guilford County teacher was found in Charlotte... Bianca Tanner's family still doesn't know how she died.

Bianca's family has had no other choice - they've had to be patient. Tanner was last seen on June 8. Her body was not found until July 3. Now, 12 weeks after her body was found, the official report from the medical examiner's office is still not done. Without those answers, Tanner's sister says it's impossible for the family to have closure.

Yes! All of this! Not many understand the mental abuse portion of an abusive relationship. It never starts off as heavy abuse. It's gradual. They slowly make you feel dependent on them. They make you feel like you deserve what is happening. They make threats that if you leave them, they will harm either yourself or themselves. It's very very difficult when you get into the situation, so, if anything comes from this (assumed) tragedy, I hope that there is awareness raised about the need to empower and support women in these situations, and that people become hesitant to say things like "it's her fault for putting herself in the situation" or "she chose this" or "she should have just left". If it were that easy, she would have left.

Let me put it out there one more time:

If it were that easy, she would have left.

If that doesn't say it, BRRI, nothing will.

Boyfriend of murdered CMS teacher Bianca Tanner gets 19 years

Angelo Smith told the family of the woman he killed that he is already in hell.

Now he’s going to prison, too.

The 32-year-old pleaded guilty Thursday to a series of charges connected to the 2014 killing of his girlfriend, Bianca Tanner, a newly hired Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools teacher whose disappearance set off a citywide hunt by her family and police.

Under the terms of a plea deal with prosecutors and Superior Court Judge Bob Bell, Smith will serve at least 19 years for manslaughter, kidnapping and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The judge rejected Smith’s request that he be allowed to enter prison programs that might allow him to be released in time to see his 8-year-old daughter graduate from college.

That request brought a shiver of added disgust from Tanner’s family. During emotional and lengthy remarks that swung from sobs to angry disbelief, they spoke of the pain they continue to feel over the loss of their loved one and the contempt they hold for Smith, who they say swore his innocence to them for weeks after Tanner’s disappearance in June 2014. Twenty-six days passed before police found Tanner’s decomposed body in a wooded area off Westinghouse Boulevard, 18 miles from the couple’s apartment.

No justice for Bianca. No justice for women. Even in this thread, Bianca was blamed for her own abuse and death. The killer, with a track record of abusing women gets the benefit of the doubt because he left her to rot so long that they couldn't prove her cause of death. You would think as a repeated abuser, he would get a longer sentence. But he will be out in less than 20 years and have plenty of time to find new victims.

This is a disgrace. When will change come?
