[h=1]Voluntary manslaughter charge reinstated in Corbett trial[/h]Trial judge David Lee told the jury that Ms Martens-Corbett's decision was not to be considered by jurors as an admission of guilt.
Earlier this morning, Mr Martens told the court he had brought a baseball bat to the Corbett residence as a gift to Mr Corbett's son, Jack.
Mr Martens was also questioned about his relationship with Mr Corbett.
"Our relationship was as it had been for quite some time," Mr Martens said. "We had made nice. We were superficially friendly."
Despite the alleged improvement to the relationship, Davidson County Assistant District Attorney Greg Brown alluded to other problems that existed between Ms Martens-Corbett and her husband.
The prosecutor said concern arose over whether Mr Corbett would return to the United States from Ireland with his children after he was scheduled to go home for his father’s 80th birthday party.
Prosecutors also said a life insurance policy stood to pay out more than $600,000 in the death of Mr Corbett.
Mr Martens said he was aware of the policy, but did not recall the amount until last week.
Closing arguments are expected to begin once a decision is reached by Judge Lee regarding instructions to jurors.

Father-in-law hit Corbett 'until he couldn't kill me', court hears

Mr Martens told the court that he was awoken "from a sound sleep" by "loud footfalls and a scream".
"It sounded bad, like a matter of urgency, so I got out of bed and grabbed the baseball bat," he said.
David Freedman, representing Mr Martens, asked why he had grabbed the bat and if he called the emergency services.
"It seemed like a good idea. I'd rather have the baseball bat than not," he said. "I did not call 911. I reacted instinctively and did not think to call 911."
Mr Martens said he determined the noise was coming from the room his daughter shared with her husband, Mr Corbett.
Mr Marens told the court that when he entered the couple's bedroom, Mr Corbett had his hands around his wife's neck.
Mr Martens said that he told his son-in-law to let her go, to which he replied 'I'm going to kill her'. He said this exchange happened a number of times.

[h=1]Jason Corbett’s brother says Molly Corbett, Thomas Martens ‘didn’t just kill him, they slaughtered him’[/h]
The autopsy showed Jason died from blunt force trauma to the head.
He had strong words regarding Molly Corbett and Thomas Martens.
“They slaughtered him. They didn’t just kill him, they slaughtered him,” Corbett said.
More than two years after the Aug. 2, 2015, murder, Molly Corbett and Thomas Martens were found guilty of second-degree murder in Jason Corbett’s death.
Corbett and Martens were each sentenced to 20-25 years in prison.
“It’s not a celebration what happened yesterday. It’s just a bit of closure that those people are being held responsible for what they did to my twin brother,” Corbett said.

[h=1]Jury finds wife, father-in-law guilty in Jason Corbett trial[/h]LEXINGTON — Molly Martens Corbett told anyone who would listen how much she loved Jason Corbett’s two children, Jack and Sarah, from his first marriage. She tried to adopt them while her husband, Jason Corbett, was alive, and after the Irish businessman was found bludgeoned to death in the early morning hours of Aug. 2, 2015, she unsuccessfully sought legal guardianship of them.

But in Davidson Superior Court Wednesday, just after she and her father, Thomas Martens, were convicted of second-degree murder, she heard Jack call her a murderer.

“She will always be remembered as the woman who killed her husband for no reason,” he said, according to a victim-impact statement Jack wrote that was read by Assistant District Attorney Alan Martin.

Molly Corbett’s head dropped and her wails filled the courtroom.

‘They waited at least an hour to make that 911 call,’

‘They waited at least an hour to make that 911 call,’ said the insider, adding: ‘There is considerable reason to believe that while they waited, they got their story straight and arranged the scene to match that story.’ Officers noted that blood on Jason’s face was ‘congealed’ and not fresh, and that his body was cool to the touch.

'THEY WERE PAINTING IT' [h=1]Molly Martens Corbett’s uncle claims brick was on bedroom nightstand because it was to be used for children’s arts project[/h]The 33-year-old and her father Thomas Martens were found guilty of second degree murder of Irish dad Jason Corbett earlier this week. And Molly’s uncle Mike Earnest has claimed it was in the house because it was being painted by “one or both” of Jason’s kids.
He told the Sunday Times: “I forget specifically if it was both or one child, but there was a craft project that they were doing in school or some summer craft thing and they were painting the brick or something to that effect.“The court decided not to allow any of those statements in. Consequently the jury had to imagine why the brick was there.
“With hindsight, it appears the jury formed an opinion quite early on.

[h=2]Convicted murderer Molly Martens Corbett’s claims that her husband subjected her to sustained verbal and physical abuse throughout their marriage has outraged the Limerick man’s family.[/h]The Corbett family are incensed by the allegations, especially the inferences regarding Mr Corbett's wife Mags, who died in November 2006, the Sunday Independent reports.
It comes as an uncle of Molly claimed there is an innocent explanation for the presence, on the bedroom night stand, of the heavy paving slab used to kill Mr Corbett.
