Identified! NC - Orange Co, WhtFem 15-25, 558UFNC, pink sweatshirt w/bunnies, Sep'90 - Lisa Coburn Kesler

Hi 4gwen, and welcome to WS.

Aside from her age being a little high, Madelyn does seem pretty close.

The NamUs casefile lists an "Autumn Cox" from NC on the rule-out list, although I don't see anyone named Autumn Cox, either in NamUs, or on my list of MP's. I suspect that this is the same person.

Nevertheless, both Madeline Cox and the UID have Mitochondrial DNA profiles on file in NamUs. So the automated matching system built into NamUs should have triggered a hit if this was a match.

And the NamUs case managers have been receiving so many requests for manual comparisons, that they are now refusing to do them unless requested to do so by law enforcement. The automated comparisons run about once per month, so the presumption is that if there is no hit, it is not a match.

I found this about Autumn Cox on a site called ColdCase Files (http://coldcase.posterous.com/unsolved-homicide-cases-in-spartanburg-county)

"Autumn Cox was reported missing from Concord NC in February of 1990. Her skeletal remains were found on 07/05/02 behind the old Spartan Undies building at Bond Industrial Park. Possible cause of death is from a stab with an edged object.
No arrests have been made in the homicide."

If this is accurate, she would seem to be a different woman.

Thanks for the welcomes and carbuff and CarlK. and thanks for the responses too,
it was a long-shot but will keep forging along with this one.
I'm looking forward to becoming much more proficient at my researching 'skills'...yes, that's for sure!! and of course, learning from dedicated folks like yourselves!

For missing dates in 1990 alone I came up with a few possiblesm none of which are on namus's rule out list:

http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/d/durham_andrea.html

Andrea Durham- 13 yrs old but the pink bunny shirt leads one to believe she may be on the younger spectrum.

http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/p/poe_deborah.html

Deborah Poe - had streaked hair at time of disappearance. Orlando, FL is a 9hr drive to NC but still possible.

http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/t/thomas_madelyn.html

Madelyn Cox Thomas: I believe she has been mentioned before. her photo is of very poor quality. She did go missing out of NC.

http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/m/merryfield_deanna.html

Deanna Michelle Merryfield- a possible given the time frame and some physical descriptions.

http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/e/elmore_diane.html

Diane Jane Elmore- a little older than age range but did have an appendectomy like Jane Doe. Front tooth is chipped which it is not noted that Jane Does is in her dental chart.

Any thoughts on any of these girls???

Interesting..I had thought of them as possibilities too, fwiw.
I really still need to learn how to put all info from more databases together. Reading all the comments by folks that have been doing this for a while now is very impressive and encouraging; especially when they make matches.
This poor gal in the bunny shirt strikes me as rather sad (don't they all really) and it also struck me when i read about her clean socks-- that's the first thing i thought of was being in/traveling in a truck or car with shoes off.....

CarlK, I wasn't sure if it was a match, it appeared to have different highways. The article states Madelyn was dismembered, not sure if that's so for your UID. But I wanted you to have it even so since you were considering Madelyn for this case.

This is the only UID female in North Carolina for the entire year 1990.

Either the Jane Doe was not listed, or they have the wrong dates and street names.

ETA: Here is the correct UID to which Madelyn Cox Thomas was matched. The UID was in SOUTH Carolina, not North Carolina.

Is there any new information about Martha Dunn as a possible match? She is still not listed as a rule-out on NamUS.

http://www.wsoctv.com/news/news/local/officers-conduct-homicide-investigation-after-1990/nZKbT/

Gaston County police said they did conduct a national search for Madelyn Thomas in 1990. They said communications between police departments was not as good then as it is now, and DNA evidence wasn't as reliable.

Officers from both sides of the state line have a lot of backtracking to do to solve this 23-year-old murder case.

Gaston County police are starting by asking for help from people like Darrell Whitesides. In 1990, Madelyn Thomas lived near him in a now-vacant Gastonia home.

"She was a likable person. She was friendly," Whitesides said.

Police know that Thomas had past arrests for prostitution.

They need to know who she hung around with, who she feared before she vanished in July 1990.

The next month, her dismembered and badly decayed body was found in Spartanburg County, S.C. It appears she was stabbed.

Hello all: I'm hesitant to post as i'm very new here, but here i go!

I was thinking about other possibilities and this gal isn't on the posted rule out list, unless Madelyn Cox Thomas also goes by Autumn Cox?

Madelyn Cox Thomas (both links refer to her)

Can I just saw way to go! You IDed an unidentified person months before LE did.

4Gwen had Madelyn as a possible match to this Jane Doe (i.e., the subject of this thread).

Madelyn was matched to 829UFSC.

Oh ok my mistake. Is there a thread for that Jane doe?

You all still rock :)

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

No, there isn't a thread for that Jane Doe.

It's probably just coincidence that both this UID and the SC UID identified as Madelyn both had rabbits on their shirt.
